Wonder if I can tell her that burglars broke in, drank all the beer, ate all the chips and left dirty clothes on the floor.

I hope she's feeling better? She might be happy enough to have those gallstones out (or have enough pain killers) to not mind much about the mess and the beer. Hope she recovers quickly!

She was happy enough to get home, have a kip and send me out for a Christmas meal with our mates that we'd arranged months ago.
