Great news!!

We made it in the Weekly Post!! smiley - smileysmiley - smiley
(but, indeed; no pictures).

'Terrorized' by Mother of God

There is no denying that there is a considerable amount of talent, here on h2g2!

Between those who write thoughtful and reasoned articles, those responsible for keeping us abreast of news and events, the editors of The Post, to the members of the Poetry Guild, and everyone in between, h2g2ers are an incredible group of people. It comes as no surprise that, with so many people, from so many backgrounds, and so many different generations, artistic talent is not in short supply.

What is surprising is that many of the artists amongst us rarely reveal their talents.

At the suggestion of Alfredo I began what I hope will turn into a popular venue for the visual artists, here on h2g2, and on Friday, January 28th, 2005, Gallery 42 opened its virtual doors to submissions and visitors.

At this point in time, Gallery 42 consists of a single main gallery, with 34 works, representing 13 artists; with an eye to expanding with smaller galleries representing different media, and special exhibit galleries for one-person shows and the like.

Artists can contribute several works (up to 5, currently) in any medium and any genre. Unlike some galleries, Gallery 42 does not intend to take a highbrow, elitist attitude to works. Anyone is free to contribute works that they feel they would like to share with others, and these can be anything from watercolours to craft items or handicrafts. If you made it, we'll post it. The only stipulation is that they be the work of the artist, conform to copyright law, and that pornographic or offensive material not be submitted (a panel will be called in to make a decision, should there be a question regarding works).

Information and Links

To visit the gallery:Mudhooks Gallery
To contribute to the gallery, send an email with the image file to: [email protected]. Files can be any size, but the bigger the better. Gmail can store 1 gig of files, so don't be timid when emailing them to me.
Contributions should include your name - h2g2 screen-name, the title and medium of the work, and a blurb about your work.

We hope the gallery continues to grow and becomes a vital extension to the world of h2g2.

I am véry exited with the content in this public Post.smiley - smiley

Thanks, "Mudhooks" for your "mail" and so much more than that.

We met at the right moment at the right place.
I hope and expect that many more peoples around h2g2 will be able to say that by sharing their passions in the albums.

To mé, that's what living is all about; sharing and inspiring.

Apropos something written on az'a photo gallery page (which I am posting the remarks upon here to avoid hijacking her thread).

jwf wrote (amongst other things: "There are our own creations, treasures we construct as a form of expression of ourselves. We have become the creators and sometimes this is obviously a very serious and personal business."

A lot of people look at "art" as this highly intillectual "process" which cannot be done by "mere mortals" such as we. In fact, art is, just as jwf said, "treasures we construct"..."expression of ourselves"... "very serious and personal business"...

All those people who go out of their way to make "art" eliteist should take time to consider such artists as Judith Scott,
http://www.riccomaresca.com/Artists/Vernacular&Outsider/Scott/Scott.htm
and Cherry Moore: http://www.ndaf.org/gettingnoticed/artists/cherrymoore/cherry.htm

Both have Down's Syndrome and both are, most difinitely artists!

Here is a terrific blog on art: http://growabrain.typepad.com/growabrain/modern_art/

Maybe because like you they are shy and don't want to be seen in such august company. The POST is after all the closest thing to a real working guide to the galaxies of cyberspace as I've ever encountered in all my trips around the stars. And the link to the Gallery works.

You know... I'm not the sort of person who believes that coincidence is anything but coincidence.... BUT.

Ear;ier today, I posted the links above, one of which was for a gallery of "outsider art". One of the other artists features was named Bill Traylor. Now, I have never heard of his work... never seen it before. However, I was particularly struck by the photos they had of his work: http://www.riccomaresca.com/Artists/Vernacular&Outsider/Traylor/Traylor.htm

Imagine my surprise when I was watching, for the first time, "Antiques Roadshow FYI". At the very end of the show, my attention was grabbed when someone said "outsider art". Lo and behoild... the piece they chose to look at was one by Bill Traylor. Weird, eh????

So far, it's a pity that so few responded the announcement in the weekly Post about the H2G2 Friends Art Album, by visiting it and/or
sharing their own creativity.

But, looking back, the birth ánd announcement have gone só speedy, that it helps me a little to digest the fact, that at this moment there may be a slow phase and that growth will mainly come from "posting to posting publicity" here at H2G2.

Anyhow, we have passed a point of no return and that gives me confidence for the future.
It is taken care of very well and the "climate" at Gallery 42 is inviting for all those who express their heart in creativity.

I'll refer to it with a link at my own Entry.
Would be a good idea if áll participants spend a few lines on it in their own personal Entry, with practical links.

Keep on going,

Greetings from Amsterdam.

If those of you who sent me two or three images want to send me a couple more, I have increased the number of "maximum" images to 5, at least for the moment.
