Yup, rag week still goes on, and in fact it seems to be getting crazier. We're going to have a foam party, various bouncy castle type things, RC car races (with an exhibition match where the uni president faces off against the president of our students union), and there are rumours of speed dating.
I've also heard that during the week, the chemistry lectures are all about how to answer exam questions, so I might even go to class!

Do you have a Rag Mag too? I really really miss them.

Hussassan's Rag Week, Day 1
Apollyon - Grammar Fascist Posted Feb 21, 2005
Ah, sounds like fun! So far, it seems our rag week is going to be one big rag mag.
We just had an 'insane hour,' which featured such delights as a competition for the first three guys to get onto the stage with three bras each, and the first three girls to get up with three pairs of men's underwear. I haven't gotten mine back yet. They were split into two mixed sex teams and each given a pint of alcohol. They had to pass it from mouth to mouth and into an empty glass, and when done, drink the other team's glass. then they were all declared winners.
We also had a pillow fight where both contestants were strapped to the floor and only had one free arm. I won two free drink coupons for kissing a girl, and another two plus a t-shirt for kissing a guy. BTW, I was (and still am) sober at the time.
There's a guy living in a box, and as the people outside with the buckets raise more for charity, more people move in with him. This lasts all week.
Might go to a club later, haven't decided.
Scandrea - rag week is a bit like spring break, except classes are still on. Fortunately, they are optional (at all times, not just rag week). There is also some effort to raise money for charity, more drinking, and no wet t-shirt contests. To make up for that, we have various other very silly competitions that would seem to belong on h2g2, though people do them in real life.
Rag is an acronym for Raise a Grand, a reference to the fact that people are theoretically trying to raise and/or donate E1,000 for charity. In truth, most people just experience a drunken orgy of drunkenness.

A school close to where I live has the Muck-up Day. It is to raise money, but you'd never guess as such. Lots of silly string and things carefully placed in order to trip up teachers.
There was a fire once...
It's a grammar school as well (we still have them on this part of the planet)...

There used to be May Day right before the end of spring semester, but a few years ago some idiots ruined it for everyone by burning their house down during a party.

A Rag Mag is indeed a listing of the events plus lots of jokes. Not all of which were rude (but indeed, most)
When I was in the queue to see The Life of Brian (when was that, 1980?) it was an afternoon performance, a car screeched up, three guys in fright wigs, dark glasses, oversized syringes and white lab coats jumped out and kidnapped a young woman from further up the line.
Nobody in the queue batted an eyelid and muttered things like "must be rag week" and just shuffled forwards again.

Had another evening of insanity last night, but they wouldn't let me compete ebcause I'd already been on. Still, there were several laughs. First of all, they got two girl on stage and they had to pass a lump of hair back and forth between their mouths while drinking alcohol (no kissing.) Then they got a guy on stage and there was a kiss-based transfer of hair from mouth to mouth, and they all got t-shirts. After that, a pint glass was passed around and we all put E2 coins in it for charity; when we had it half full, our students union president put it in his mouth for the rest of the evening. By the way, it was dripping with saliva and beer, plus had been rolled around on the dirty stage a few times.
Karaoke came after that. I wanted to sing 'What a Wonderful World,' but someone fecked up and I ended up doing 'Breakfast at Tiffany's,' a song i had never heard before. I was given a stereo as a bribe to never, ever sing karaoke again.
Earlier in the day, we got a whole bunch of big giant inflatables into the sports hall. These included:
*A bungy run
*An amusng obstacle course of which I was the unchallenged champion.
*Something called 'Twin Peak' which involved rope climbing - not as easy as it sounds, or looked.
*A rodeo bull
*A giant foosball table with peopel as the players
*A gladiator ring where we had to use those ginat cotton bud thingies from the TV show 'Gladiators' to knock each other off a small platform.
Great craic.
