Why does City Hospital always have a narcotic effect on me? And here I was hoping to be all productive.
I was naughty and bought a package of those milk chocolate caramel mcvitie's digestives. Bad, because the b*stards are so addictive. I do believe they're my favorite cookie. Ever. And I come from a land where cookies are a speciality. Coffee and McVities for breakfast...yes.
You know what else I like? Jacob's cornish wafers. They rule...ah...
You know what doesn't rule? Dandelion and Burdock (is that right?). The curious anthropologist in me just had to try it when I saw it in the soda aisle. Well, to be honest, I was really hoping it was the Scottish equivalent of root beer. No such luck. Ew...
Actually, anyone know of an import store that sells American goods? Most things I can live without, but a girl needs a root beer float once in a while!

Shall we be picky? " I do believe they're my favorite cookie." You have to say 'biscuit' to fit in with the locals.
I think Macdonalds used to sell root beer in the 80s. Not much help now...

I love dandelion and burdock!
Daytime TV sends me back to sleep and I have only just got up.

The cookie thing confuses me. In the store they sell 'american-style cookies,' but otherwise things seem to be biscuits, shortbreads, or digestives. Hmmm...
We have ginger ale in the states, which i'm assuming is like ginger beer. That is the stuff I give to sick kids and drink when pregnant and/or nauseated. Root beer is dark, sort of like a sweet cola.

Maybe you could find something labelled sassafrass? That's kinda similar in taste to root beer.
There are root beer concentrates available in this area - the Amish use it to make a non-carbonated root beer. I haven't seen any in a while, but surely it's still out there. If it's still available, maybe you could get some store to import it for you and mix it with soda water. (Unless they're so uncivlilized over there that you can't even get that either. )

Sassafrass?
Could that be the thing I know down here as 'sarsaparilla'?
(If it is, it's horrid.)
Ivan.

There is a website called 'American Soda In The UK' who will order it in for you.

Yeah, I think it's something like sarsparilla.
Oh god, thanks Mina They have a big ol' graphic of A&W on the front page even!

Glad to help! I was actually trying to find out if sodastream did that flavour and found that site instead. I couldn't find a non-commercial page to link to!

I like sarsparilla (sp?). Kinda tangy yet flavoursome. Like ginger ale.
There's an australian drinks brand who had a brand of sarsparilla called 'Sars' - I'm told sales went up something like 30% when s.a.r.s. happened.

Oh okay, sales only went up locally. I guess we must all be sick s over here.
