Hello Owly!

Specials training, eh? Good for you! I was one once for around a year and a half...then I became a full-timer. And here I am, twenty six and a half years later. Doesn't time fly when you're having fun!

Are you in the throbbing Metropolis, or elsewhere?

Leafy Cheshire...sounds nice!

I did my specials training in 1977, mainly as a stepping stone to the regular service. Because I was nowhere near the "six-footer" that people seemed to expect in those days, being a special gave me a "leg up" (so to speak)when I put in my application.

Things have changed a bit in the last few years. Do you remember the old film "The Blue Lamp"? Apparently it was actually used at Hendon as a training film back in the 50s! It was thought that PC George Dixon was something every recruit should aspire to. Watching the film now, it looks like a relic of a byegone age...shame!

Chris.

well im using it as the samething a stepping stone it gives me an insight into thejob and hopefully shows the ppl on the the interview boards what i can do and i am over 6ft lol

i think i can remember the film its ancient but i suppose it is a long long way off what the bobbys on the beat have to deal with these days im on duty wednesday doing a 9-5 shift so itll be a lot different to the friday nights they want us to do
