EE: I'm back....

Howdy hi!
I'm back now, hopefully... Had my interview at Cambridge... now I've got all the way 'till January to find out if I'm being offered a place *bites nails*
Lovely city, though. Lovely university too. And this comes from the biggest of cynics!

Yeah, it is a long-time dream. But I never really believed I'd make it. And standing on the doorstep of this is like, well... I don't want to think about it too much, y'know? I don't want to be too excited in case I don't make it.

If I remember correctly [and I reserve the right to be wrong] Thales was one of the first philosophers ever ever, of the ancient greek variety, and he was the bloke who said, in a roundabout kind of way, that you can never step in the same stream twice

Yes EE you're right! He was an ancient Greek philiosopher and is thought of as one of the first philosophers. His "thing" was that everything is water. Can see where he's coming from but ultimately he was wrong. The bit about stepping into the same river twice is right though. Good luck with the application, hope it turns out to be everything you expected and more.....

I've been pooled for the college that I applied to...and, being fair, I don't think I've much hope of being picked up by someone else. I don't mind though - whatever happens I shall end up doing a degree in something I love

Which is the only good reason for doing a degree. ie in something that you love! There's nothing worse than finding yourself at the start of a three- (or sometimes four) year slog doing something that you hate!
Good luck once again. I quite envy you. Wish I was back in Higher Education!. It sure beats working.!

'Tis official now that I didn't make the mark for Cambridge. Gave it a fair shot though... There's nout to say I can't do my PhD there 
...I'm afraid I'd pick education any day, too...
But at least you can part-buy some freedom with work
