Fizzymouse- no place like home Started conversation Dec 17, 2011
Well, today has been a strange one.
Was online earlier and tried to post something but my keyboard had obviously been studying languages while I slept and kept typing random selections of letters - even when I only pressed one key
Didn't have time to get to the bottom of that problem because I needed to be on my way to drama.
Well, I didn't quite run, I was walking very carefully actually. The street was like glass a very pretty but treacherous jet black sheen covered the ground. Then I did.
Cover the ground that is. Splat! There I was for the second time in a week nose to nose with the pavement.
It was rather more difficult to get up this time since I'm no Jane Torville and didn't have the correct footwear to enable purchase on such a surface but I made it in the end.
The good thing is that I fell on my right side this time so the left side can continue healing.
So when I got home I tried to get to the bottom of the keyboard thing - to no avail. I'm wondering is it something to do with the batteries being almost dead? Who knows? I'll buy some batteries when I'm at the battery shop next week and see if it's gone for good or just needs a break.
I'm typing this on an old keyboard that I kept for such emergencies and it has a very, very sticky keyboard - that's annoying but better than trying to read/write on the 7 inch netbook.

Good grief Fizzy! You're lucky you didn't break any bones (I hope you didn't!)

Can't you put woollen socks over your shoes?

Well I'm sure I could if I knew what they were or had some.
I saw snow grips in a shop last night but I'm not sure how effective they'd be on ice.

Hmmm, you could knit a pair of socks.

Hi Fizzy, hope you haven't hurt yourself too badly.
I've gone back to a wired keyboard and mouse. The wireless mouse seem to eat batteries and the keyboard barely fared much better. Even rechargeables I was having to rotate them so much they stopped taking a charge. Gets a mite expensive to say the least. I got a new optical mouse and Logitech keyboard for less than a tenner. Cheaper option all round.

Oh I go through a lot of keyboards, BMT. I'm back with a very iffy one but it seems to be working alright at the moment. In fairness the battery one hasn't had the batteries replaced since I bought it and that was some months ago so I got value from the batteries anyway.

I bought these, which work on snow and ice, but not on bus floors.

Just hoping I don't have to use them this year, as my disability makes walking on very painful and tiring on the legs.

I think the best bet would be to fit a skate to your bum !
Or wrap you in a duvet before you're allowed out.

I don't know about skis with wooden socks though, so the year before last!
No wonder Bel was confused with me not knowing what woollen socks were - she now thinks I live in static electricity heaven - man-made fibres need only apply.

Step 1 in doing the housework ..... check h2g2 ..... is this procrastination or genuinely keeping the 'house' tidy?
I mean no-one wants to come back online to 4+ unread messages.

Oh, Fizzy, it sounds like you have the same luck as I do when it comes to ice. Google Hot Headz Ice Cleats (I would post a link but they're all to commercial sites). They slip on over your shoes and have little metal cleats on them. Using them is what keeps me upright when there's ice on the ground. I'm sure there are other brands but some have rubber "cleats" that don't grip as well as the metal.
