I want to record my disgust at Bush's presumption of world spokesmanship on human rights:

I deplore some aspects of China's record, but it's surely true that standards of justice and personal freedom have greatly improved in that country since the turn of the millennium.
In Bush's America since his election in 2000, however, standards have moved in the opposite direction.
While ever Bush pretends statesmanship, the United States will remain a pathetic travesty of its ideals and noble past.

Silence…..
More silence...
“The vilest man on earth”….
Come on old bean….where is that classic English flair for clever understatement?
What about the alcoholic fellow down the road who beats his wife, molests children and has really bad personal hygiene?
Granted, Bush is not going to make the top ten list of US Presidents, but what could one expect after electing a spoiled silver spoon Vietnam era deserter with a DUI charge?
January 20, 2009…"the end of an error".
I grew up in the Deep South. We had total segregation of our public bathrooms, water fountains, beaches, schools and eating places. We also have a special word to represent 2nd person plural. The word was “y’all”.
We are about to elect a very interesting man to replace Bush. Perhaps then we can reclaim our place in the community of democratic nations?
Some call this man, “The One”. I'm feeding his campaign my financial support. He has offered to e-mail me first when he selects a vice-president.
My h2g2 post for the day in wonderful day in November will be, “Top that, y’all!”….but I guess the next British PM, is probably not going to have an Indian ancestry?

Funny you should mention that, Phred. I bought myself a T-shirt with that on it. Syn liked it so much that I bought him one, too.
Pin, hang in there. If you hate him that much, imagine how we feel. He's an embarrassment to the entire nation. Well, not his loyal supporters, I suppose. Let's say he's an embarrassment to thinking Americans. The 62 plus million of us who didn't vote for him.

OK, so I was feeling a little heated.
The tragedy of Bush, though, is that he turned up just when the world needed a moral beacon.
Iy isn't about "our place in the community of democratic nations". It's about being the Leader of the Free World. Thanks to Bush, the US has no moral authority to criticise anybody. China in Tibet, Russia in Georgia, Zimbabwe in flames - you name it. Despots everywhere only need to mention Guantanemo Bay and US credibility dissolves. And that's before we mention than the man is not in the top 100 million candidates for the Presidency when scored on intellectual adequacy.
Plus he's threating to lose me a £10 bet. In August 2001 (not great timing with hindsight), I predicted that before Bush left office, somebody would shoot him.

Ahem. You remind me of another T-shirt. I didn't buy it, but nearly did. It says "Is America ready for a black president? Why not? We have a retarded one."
Sorry about the bet. But would you have liked Dick Cheney in there?

I find the bet curious. Leaders don't get shot for intellectual inadequacy or lack of moral high ground do they? Rather the opposite, no?
