T.B. Falsename ACE: [stercus venio] I have learned from my mistakes, and feel I could repeat them exactly.

I've got three new photos up on deviantArt if anyone wants to go and look at them. they can be found
here http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42985357/
here http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42986641/
and here http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42988068/

They look a little bit washed out, as the internet has a smaller colour range than they do, however you can see them ok.

No I'm not. The reason being I like to know someone's name before getting screwed by them. Whoever wrote the license underwhich photgraphs are submitted ooooh I have not the words for what I think.

Hmmm, yes maybe I know how you feel... I had a photo going through the submission process for an EG entry, but it's now been pulled because, well, because this is the BBC, basically, and we wouldn't want to be having photos on entries of stuff that the entries are about, because of all sorts of copyright and advertising reasons.

I see where they're coming from, but I spent a fair bit of time setting the thing up, people were happy with it, then along comes Auntie Beeb and says "No". smiley - grr

>>setting the thing up<< That should be "setting the picture up". (Basically, I built something out of lego (for a lego entry), took the pic, but this particular picture of lego isn't allowed smiley - erm)

The thing that gets me is they could say

If you submit a photo it ours and we can do what we like with it, we can alter it, use it in any way we see fit for as long as we want, sell it to make millions and you'll get nothing BWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now drop your trousers and bend over smiley - evilgrin

It would mean the same thing

In fact, it's the same thing for anything we write here too isn't it? Basically, you put anything up on h2g2 - words, photos, art - and the BBC magically owns it. Unless they don't like it, in which case they take it away.

yes, it seems you do, I'm fairly sure it never said 'perpetual' the last time I checked...excuse me while I go and delete loads of stuff and then deny having ever put it up on here.

And I've just put my pic that the BBC didn't want in here on Wiki instead (ooh, controversial).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lego_Star_Wars#Making_Your_Own_Scenes

It's under a "GNU Free Documentation License", rather than the Beebs "perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sub-licenseable right" blah blah blah Licence.

umm which picture?

the link you gave just takes me to the Lego Star Wars page. Also the only reason I can think of that would stop the beeb from accepting the pic is that Lego might not like it, as Geaorge Lucas has, on numerous occasions, stated that he doesn't mind people using the star wars universe, characters and technology so long as they don't try to claim it's official and don't try to make money out of it.

It's the photo right near the bottom in "Making Your Own Scenes" section - Luke and Leia just about to jump off the walkway.

Yes, hootoo/BBC have a problem with it because of copyright and advertising reasons. Seems bizarre though that someone can write a Lego Star Wars entry (A577037), but we can't have a Lego Star Wars photo.

Is it just me, or is all this just a bit nuts? You've an article on Star Wars Lego and they won't let you have a picture, but on Blue Peter when they need a "crisp tube" or a margerine tub, you can tell that it's Pringles ir whatever coz all they've done is stick tape over the name and left the rest of the label.

Same on big cook little cook... mmmm what are those corn flakes from a well known brand doing there.

B the editors do say we come under a slightly different set of liciensing laws to the rest of the BBC as in they are allowed to show the logo for the London underground but that is a no no here

How's it different though? I mean, it's still part of the beeb here.

they only pay for the new news to have those licienses, if we wanted such things then they would probabily charge us users to raise the money and I for one would not be willing to foot the bill

They already complain they spend too much money on us and other boards which is why the regually close the boards and why there are so many archieved ones... especially ones that threatened to cost more money see the cult boards and the Buffy and Angel stuff that was ott when they came back from there and they kept asking for images for that

Suppose so. But you'd think there'd be a way of doing it legally and cheaply too. I mean like everyone who reads the lego article, for example, might be interested then in going and buying some so it's kinda cheap advertising for lego.
