BH, there was a genuine problem with the filter as used on the messageboards, in that you couldn't talk about sitting down with a nice cup of tea and a hob-nob biscuit, as that failed because it was rude.

It's almost as if they've switched the filter on without properly testing it. Surely they wouldn't go at it half cocked!

The Archers uses a different filter to h2g2, so pointless testing that.
I'd like to point out that you're all being bloody ridiculous 'testing' the swear filter. All that happens is that staff then have to spend time adding more variations to the filter, instead of doing interesting things like developing new ideas.
Plus Danny Wallace have already done it thanks.

Why am I reminded of the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon where Calvin phones up the library and says "Hello, this is Professor Calvin. I'm doing research into swear words. Could you read out a complete list of all the words you know?"

Not to mention 'The Archers'. Strictly taboo in my household, that is.

"staff then have to spend time adding more variations to the filter, instead of doing interesting things like developing new ideas."
Seeing the current developed ideas, that seems like asking people to test the filter even more.

Maybe if they set the threshold not at the level of 3 year old children of Daily Mail readers we wouldn't feel the need to test the system.
If this has caused the PTB trouble then they are the architects of that trouble if you ask me.

Mina has used much harsher language than that before.
And I still have no idea what is. It must be dirty.
