Nothing wrong with Lensman. Very of their time, but still good fun.

As for Messrs Solo and Kuryakin...smiley - cross Lay off, or we'll fall out.

Oh wonderful programme, if you'll ignore the last series. As I said, I've got some the books, it's the written version I have the problem with. WIthout the performances, it seems rather flat.

Sadly I didn't start with Lensmen, I started with Family D'Albert smiley - blush

No, everything else by him was pooh, I'm afraid.

The booka are rather flat, but I have 14 of the buggers, so having the lastsix is a bit of (very minor) holy grail for me.

Not like Doc savage where Ihave just over 50 or so of the 181 total...smiley - laugh

I enjoy them because they remind me of being a kid. I admit they lack literary merit.

What UNCLE are you missing? You might find the ones I have match up, and you're welcome do them if so...

I have a complete set of no's 1-14. I have a suspicion that 15-20 were only printed in the States. I have seen a copy of no 20, once, as somebodyelse was buying it...

I'll check the numbers of mine when I get home- they're still at my parents. I forget now where the blazes they came from, but they were in perfect never used condition- and pretty mcuh still are.

Of course, the selfish git in me says if they are in that good nick, I'll have em anyway, but the unselfish part of me says that if they are duplicates, get 'em e-bay. Good conditioned, collectible stuff does go like the clappers on there, from what I've seen.

Well, I['ll check what they are, and let you know tonight. All I can remember off-hand is one has a yellow background on the cover, one blue and one grey. Which isn't very helpful.

Think of my memory as being in the style of a fuzzy old-fashioned tegelatype. It's all there, just some bits are a little hazy.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I _don't_ like hype. There are very few occasions when I will get excited about something before I have seen it.

Sorry, that was in response to post 60, before I realized I'd missed 2 pages!
I've read my Dad's complete Lensman and Skylark series, and was entertained, but that was a good 10 or 12 years ago (i.e. half my life). I've got one Man From Uncle book that I bought at a Summer Fayre back when they were still on TV, but I never read it.
My greatest collection, though, is the Hardy Boys Casefiles. I've got a couple of the original Hardy Boys stories, but the Casefiles were among the first books I bought when I could actually afford that kind of thing. I have numbers 1 to 12 plus a couple of others.

Ah right smiley - ok. You have to keep up when Kerr and I are having one of our rather 'wide ranging' discusions...smiley - laugh

As for hype, couldn't agree with your more. A lesson learnt round about the time of the Queens Silver Jubillee. Advertising, great. Actual event, rubbish.smiley - laugh

No I don't the Jubilee was rubbish because...oh right, gotcha.

Actually it's because Kerr and I get very bored during the day...

Having said that the Jubilee was rubbish, I quite enjoyed sitting at the top of a hill watching them lighting the beacon and singing God Save the Queen.

I suspect I was a little older, a little more cynical and just about ready for Messrs Lydon and Co to tell me that 'God save the Queen...'

I enjoyed the Golden celebrations- I'm too young to remember the first smiley - tongueout

UNCLE books- I can find two, which are in good condition, and seem to have no number. One is titled just 'The Man from UNCLE', and has Solo on the cover with a greyish background. The other is titled 'The Man From UNCLE: The Copenhagen Affair'. They are 1993 prints by Boxtree.
