Hmm. Somebody did mention something about wanting to do an anime con sometime.

It must be my age. People keep asking me to take them places...

What, like 'round the back? smiley - run

Cons I've done plenty of. Never an anime one, mind you.

Take your mind out of the gutter before it endsup in a storm drain and gets washed out to sea.

Anime cons are ok. They are just full of nerds like every other con...smiley - laugh

Gutter? Nah mate, sewer....

So yeah, just like any other con. The con that's ever actually scared me was a Trek one in Hammersmith . Never, *ever* again. I thought Who fans were bad, but at least we *know* we're being silly.. I thought I was going to get battered at one point...

Trek fans are the worst. I should know, my brother once went on national tv dressed in bloody cosstume to publicise something or other . The shame, the shame.

With one or two exceptions, they are notoriously without a sense of humour...

Mmm, so I discovered. I went as part of a deal with a mate who's a big Trek fan- we first went to a Who con together, then to Trek one. SO vey, very different. No getting outragously pissed in the bar with the guests, no daft interludes lamponing the show on the main stage, no odd caberet from the guests. Boring, really. Just seemed like a big excuse to shift merchandising..

Yeah, that'd be aboutright. Anime cons fall somewhere in between. merchandise shifting is a focus (the feeding frenzy when the dealers room is firstopened on the saturday is incredible - wayworse than sharks...) but i can understand that as the merchandise is *so* difficultto get in this country.

There's also a distinctlack of guests - again, the Japanese are too busy and the cons normally to small to afford them.

But there is a lot of laughinhg and drinking done...

Somehow I expected anime cons to be merchandise focused. Don't forget that with Who, once you've got all that's available on DVD or video, plus your fiction books, there is a feeling that 90% of what's left is just tat designed to steal fan's cash.

Well, indeed. I imagine Anderson cons are pretty much the same sort of thing...

I have mixed feelings about doing an anime con again, I have to say.

Yeah, partly. I've just spent ages getting rid of videos and other accumulated nonsense. I don't want to start filling up withthe damned things immediately.

Anime merchandise is odd, you feel drawn to buy the most goddamn useless bits of tat that if you werein Woolworths you wouldn't look at twice...smiley - weird

Though I do have a very nice framed cel from Tenchi the tv series which good on my wall...smiley - magic

Oh, don't even start on accumulation of stuff. Justifing keeping several years back issues of mags like SFX required some fast talking when it came to packing our gear... I can't bear to throw stuff away, esp. SF related stuff...

No, I think not. I would quite happily give them a home, but I fear they are not worth the frosty glares that would follow smiley - winkeye

Well, he does let me get away with an awful lot of crap that a sane person wouldn't even consider- I mean, who else takes pride in a full set of Tomorrow People books? smiley - laugh

Stick an ad in SFX or Starburst itself- should be able to shift 'em that way.

Tomorrow People is a bit extremem, but on the other hand I aspire to a complete set of Masn From Uncle and Doc Savage books.smiley - laugh
