Thank you friends.
This is still a rather safe space, you make it so.
Perhaps practicing kindness in the small scale will eventually reach the grander scale of the world? Please say it's so?
PS, adding a general whine about this cold (38 degree fever and coughing) that's been going on for three weeks now.

Oddly, I have also had that same cold, since mid-October. It started as a mild sinus infection, which I had hoped would clear up before Halloween (since we had invested all that time, work, and money into awesome costumes), but over that weekend it got so much worse. Ended with with walking pneumonia and bronchitis. I *still* have cough and nasal congestion, low-grade fever, and am soooo exhausted. And working all of this overtime (still at around 60ish hours a week) is not helping. I've got a recent new hire in my department (and another supposed to start by the first of next month), but we "upgraded" to a new accounting program that has less functionality than the old one did at the beginning of this month, and training a new person, learning a new system, *and* still doing my old workload plus 20% (we closed on 6 new practices in the last 30 days) is killing me.
And I won't get into the events of this week and how much they scare and depress me, other than moan that now I'm not sure we should buy that house we fell in love with. Interest rates already increased, and if they cut taxes at the federal level, they will have no choice but to increase them at the local level, and Chicago was already on schedule for a significant increase next year before the election.

My darling pc. I do hope things ease up for you soon, this shit just can't go on! And I do mean all the shit, from colds and working hours to elections and mortgages.
I'm still mostly on the couch in daytime. Knitting and netflixing. And at 38 degrees C. I just realised I better get a doctors note to validate all my absence though... Not that they would fire me for a cold, but to keep the records straight.
Thanks all for your comfort. It matters.

The upstairs neighbors who moved in at the beginning of August don't help. I haven't had a decent night's sleep - or even a peaceful evening or weekend afternoon - since they moved in. Landlord won't evict them, the cops have stopped responding. We want to put in an offer on that house right now just to get away from it, but assuming it would take about two months to close, that leaves us on the hook for 5-6 months' rent and insurance on an apartment we're not living in, in addition to the mortgage payment, or at least until they are able to rent it out again.
I'm not sure how bad an idea it would be to buy just because of the election. According to his proposed policies, we can expect our income tax to rise by about 3-5%, and I'll be at risk of losing my medical insurance and my asthma meds would cost a fortune without it. But our rent will also increase again if we stay another year, and if it increases as it has done historically, the difference between our rent and the estimated mortgage would either be break-even or maybe $100 more, and that's with putting down a 10% down payment instead of 20% so we can have some of our savings left for a safety net.

Hi fellow Hitchhikers.
PC, don't forget to factor in the significant tax deductions you will get for your mortgage interest and real estate taxes.

Itemized deductions will all go away for taxpayers earning less than $200K under the Trump tax plan.

If that happens, that significantly changes my 10 year plan.
I'm good, y'all. Nice to see that you miss me 'round these parts.
