Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Sep 20, 2008
so what else should we do on this fine saturday. i'm afraid i'm limited to stay indoors - unless...
think i'll call my friend and here if he is still sober enough to drive. it's my last chance to see the outside world - and do some shopping

I'm very disappointed with your webcomic Mal I thought as a German National you may have slipped a few verbotten's in for us English.
I drive an Audi, that's got loads of verbotten's, along with Nicht-finger-sticken-dunkoptfen, Achtung! Handee offen, donner blitzen!
There's more, but I think it would be too obvious I was being flippant.
On a more serious note, what is the Low German for "verbotten" just curious?

it's verboten - in both high and low
however the pronunciation is a bit different in low
and mala is not half the german i am
(litterally. i am half german...)

i have to admit i'm half danish, half german and half polish (the latter accounts for my overweight)
what half of you is german, mala? your mothers side?

I consider myself Anglo-Saxon, is that close enough? Should I be a Jute or Fresien Perhaps it will help me understand my car better

hehehe, i just talked with my 'more or less sane' mum on the phone
the old broad is planning to move. again. says the cobble stones around here present quarters don't go well with her new hip. or maybe it's the other way around.
you have to admire her courage and stamina. she was in her late 70's when she finally moved to denmark where she had never lived before. up until then the farthest she'd ever moved was some 30 kilometres. now she's close to 80 and wants to move again.
i'm sure she'll outlive us all

Hope she finds somewhere less cobbled, then.
I wonder what would happen if I refer to Yarreau as "the old broad"

Well - Mala just found out. Read all about it in her other thread - "Malabarista's Medical Misadventures."
There is no such word as "verboten" in Plattdeutsch.
We Northern Germans do whatever we please. Authority exists for the sole purpose of being mocked.

datt hört sich awer verboten an
judging from malas age you can't be quite the old broad yet, yarreau (nice to meet you, by the way)
and can i just say that my mum does not bother about being an old broad. she introduces herself on the phone with those exact words

well, yarreau, what can i say? i've been 37 for years. but one gets used to it. trust me.
have to admit it took me the best of 20 years, but then you don't learn so quickly once you've passed 4 or 5. wait! you're not a teacher, are you? because in that case you'll already know that
anyway, where in germany do you hail from?

No, I'm not a teacher, although language teacher was one of my many professions. Raising Mala and her sisters was quite enough of a job in that department...
I've lived almost everywhere in Germany (well, what used to be West Germany), plus 8 years abroad, and now I'm back in Southern Lower Saxony where I started out almost... uh... forty years ago.
And, to get back on topic, I've seen the first 18 episodes of Mala's comic but I mustn't tell or there will be no .
