I've been a little absent lately. This is because I've moved house and don't have internet access until I find out the password - new housemate is away. And now I'm off to Canada for a week, so don't expect to see me around much.

Okay, I've returned. Had a good time. Now you've heard about it.

Just kidding, I'll post a fuller account later, but I'm in the library and the computer's telling me I've only got ten minutes left.

I have managed to use the internet from home, courtesy of next door, but just at te moment I'm in the library.

Anyway I went to a wedding on Saturday, which was good. I've never been to a Catholic wedding (or indeed any Roman Catholic service) before, but clearly most people had (nearly all in attendence were family of the bride or groom) and weren't as lost as me. I joined in for the Lord's Prayer, and was busy concentrating on saying thee and thou instead of you, when I got caught by it stopping two lines early.

Then there was the reception in the evening, with a rock/jazz fusion band, and a party round the pool the following day. All good fun.

After that three days in Toronto, with two friends who'd also gone over for the wedding. Saw the Terracotta Warriors at the Royal Ontario Museum. Also saw a lot of bars.

Wednesday I went to a barbecue at a friend's house (the advantage of having lived nearby for a couple of years) where I met a couple of old friends and some new people.

Wait, I forgot about Niagara Falls. We stopped there on the way to Toronto. Went on the "Behind the Falls" thing where you go down tunnels and look at the back of the falls. Not as exciting as it sounds. However there's also a tunnel to a viewing area in front of the falls which was far more spectacular. Fortunately one of us had brought a brolly. smiley - winkeye

So that was the good stuff. The bad bits were that it was rather too hot and the transport didn't go smoothly. One of the three of us (not me) turned up a bit late and didn't get on the overbooked plane. This was even more of a pain as he was the one who'd booked the hotel for the first night (that was in Toronto, we headed to the town with the wedding on the second day), which would let the other two of us in. smiley - grr So we traipsed around Toronto and found space in a hostel.

That wasn't the end of the problems. The same person had booked the hire car. Now he booked through the same guys who sold us the tickets and they rearranged it for him. This did mean he got off the plane and then drove for two hours. Even worse was returning the car. First we couldn't find the place (dropping it in downtown T.O., not back at the airport), so I got out to have a look around, then couldn't find the car again. Turns out they got directions, but when they returned the car were charged extra for stuff we thought was included (and was mentioned on the booking thing, looking very much like it was included).

So, hopefully there will be some sort of refund for the extra costs, or the insurance will pay out.

The only way to be sure of winning a bet on a race is to put money on all the runners.
