"Police are now trying to trace a red Ford Sierra which was driven off after the crash."
Wait a minute - this car hit a building with enough force to damage it so badly that it mat have to be demolished, and the car was then driven off? smiley - huh

"Neither of us heard the crash and only realised what had happened when the firemen woke us," said Mr Scott."
Damn, I wish I could sleep that soundly! If a mouse farts half a mile away, I'm awake smiley - sadface

If the crash didn't wake them up, how did the police rouse them, fly a plane into the building? A few sticks of dynomite?

Alcohol, ladder, boogie-board, brick wall...

I am sure these guys think they look really cool. Women, however, would just see a bunch of morons.

Guys, Mudhooks? I only see one. I can't see him well enough to guess his intelligence.

Is there also alcohol in the picture? Is there a brick wall? Where do you see all these things? smiley - erm Is it a special kind of visual acuity that only a woman would have? If so, it's not fair! smiley - cross

Drat... I posted the link to the image and not to the page it was on. Now, I'll have to track it down.

Yes, there was alcohol. Yes, there were other guys. And, yes, there was a brick wall.... It is one of those back "gardens" in London, with cement on the ground and brick walls all round.

Besides, would any sober person (even a male) decide to boogie-board down a ladder in a walled-in yard?

Have you ever read "The Darwin Awards," Mudhooks? smiley - bigeyes Their point is that there are virtually no limits to human stupidity and miscalculation. *Most* of the "winners" of the award (i.e., those who remove themselves from the gene pool in the most entertaining ways possible) are male, but I can think of some female accomplishments that ought to qualify. For starters, there's Lorena Bobbitt. smiley - yuk

I don't think Larena qualifies, since it was her husband who was the person who suffered from her actions and she did it knowing that cutting his willy off might just be liable to be painful and bloody, which was, you must admit, entirely the point.

Doesn't mean that women don't do stupid thing to themselves with or without alcohol.

Knowing men (and having had to take to or visit with male friends, relations, and others) who have done incredibly stupid things, either with or without being under the influence of alcohol, I can say that they far outnumber the number of women I know who get themselves into "fixes".... Invariably they say that "it seemed like fun at the time", they "didn't think they would miss", they "don't know why" they did it, or some such thing.

Women usually think these things out ahead of time..... Alcohol, ladder, boogie-board, brick wall..... "Bad idea.... Think I'll pass."

Men? "Cool!"

Hi, Mudhooks.

Aha! I think this could develop into a lively discussion, especially if Doctor Laura (Schlesinger) were here, which she isn't. Have you heard of her book called "Ten Stupid Things Women do to Mess up Their lives?" She also wrote a companion book about ten stupid things that men do. I doubt that there are *only* ten stupid things that men or women do to mess up their lives, but Doctor Laura would have had no control over the titles of her books (publishers usually reserve the right to use any title they please).

There may be an evolutionary reason for young men to be impressionable enough to follow orders/suggestions that might get them killed or maimed, otherwise there would be no armies. On the distaff side, you might read (if you haven't already) "Daughter of Fortune," by Isabel Allende, which has several examples of sixteen-year-old girls (women?), whose hormones cause them to latch on to men who later prove to be unreliable (to put it mildly); lest you think the men seduced them, it was the men who tried to cool the women's ardor and discourage them from pursuing the men. smiley - yikes ("Daughter of fortune" is, of course, fiction. In real life, there was a girl in my home town who pursued one of my male classmates wherever he went. He had no chance whatsoever of eluding him....)
