would you really trust the royal mail?

Tchah! I take it that's a rhetorical question?
They /always/ decide to go on strike just when I need to send something important, or expect something. Plus, Amazon UK always use Royal Mail. So there's no buying anything until it's all over.

iI don't think it's effecting us up North yet, everything goes to Edinburgh so if they go on strike we're truely b*ggered.
And I'm expected to be writing to three friends at the moment

As their website pleads, it's just London and Greater London that's effective. It may contravene the House Rules for commercial links, but here's their URL: http://www.royalmail.com - Notice the important strike information part.

I have no clue where they're centrally based. A lot of places are central to Leeds for some reason - so perhaps it isn't so bad unless you're planning on sending to /receiving from London.

Well, I hear the strike is off and the last of the backlog is being purged through... Hopefully normal service will be resumed again soon.
I've said it before, and, alarmingly, I'm going to say it again. Roll on privatisation. It didn't work so great with the rail, but come on - the smaller courier services have their work cut out for them with the appalling service offered by Royal Mail. I'm sure it'd be an improvement.
