Hi, Mikey!
dim26trav Posted Aug 10, 2004
To some extent I am aware of some red flags.
Part of the story is that I have worked for many different companies on contract or directly, part of it is that I am now 52 and that seems to be an unstated objection (no one has actually said anything but I have suspected some)
Part of it is that I have tried to work my way into the ranks of management and still mention that I would like to do that even though I am interviewing for a techie position.
Instead of working at one type of job (technician) I have worked at many including inspector, assembler: not to mention the ones that I don't put on the resume such as baggage handler and hotel manager, and salesman. (yes I tried sales and failed miserably)
Part is that I am overweight (although not grossly over weight) and that has never been stated as an objection but I suspect it.
I have lived in 5 states and being so mobile is another red flag. (can we trust this person to stay with us????)
In a sense I have many reasons not to be hired. Even without blabbing out loud about them. Most are things that cannot be changed easily or at all. Frankly, I think they make me a better employee.
So I am stuck...

Well my 52nd birthday has come and gone and I am still without employment. It seems like I'm going to have to invent my own place of work. How about a transdimensional travel agency?
I just dont understand why these potential employers fail to see the value I would add for their companies. My interviews seem friendly enough and there is no"problems that are appearant to me during them.
My experience fits well within their declared requirements, yet I am just not getting the calls. It's a mystery!

Hi, Mikey! I just wanted to drop you a note to say...
I was lucky enough to have finished my uni project, but not quite lucky enough to have made your lucky schmoe list.

Yeah, I finished mine, too, and am not on that list. I didn't make the drop down list myself, it's one of the automated ones, like the list of scouts, ACEs, gurus, sub-eds, etc. As the university project began to crumble, it was just never updated. Although taking a look, my drop-down scout list is even more horrendously outdated -- there are people on that list who haven't been on this site in years. For awhile the Italics were regularly updating those, but that hasn't happened lately.
I've just chucked that section from my space altogether -- not much point in having them if they're going to be that out of date!
Which uni project was yours?

Oh, sorry. I didn't realise. It was a pretty impressive collection nevertheless. Functionality shouldn't be the only criterion for saving things.
I did one, 'Fundamentals of Horticulture' (or something like that) and another, 'Tibet, Occupation and Exile'.
What was yours about?

Mikey the Humming Mouse - A3938628 Learn More About the Edited Guide! Posted Aug 29, 2004
Well, some of the stuff on my personal space has been there for almost five years now! I do try and change things around a bit every now and then.
My uni project was on Girl Scouts. One of the entries in the project really needs updating, I just need to find the energy for it!

Oh, yes; I remember Girl Scouts. It's a shame they had to stop doing the uni projects. It was a good scheme, I thought.
On the other hand, we're still here, alive and... well,, if not kicking, then, at least, wriggling a bit.

Hello ! to you from Blue Bird because I like the humming Mouse: ~~~~~ hope you don't mind if I am asking your opinion about a question just posted to the h2g2 Community.
Question: Am I awake or dreaming? Thanks for your answer. BB

Hi there, Blue Bird / Gecko! While I'm relatively certain that I am not dreaming, I don't know of any way to be sure that someone else isn't. Having a go at solipsism, or what?

Hi, Mikey! I just wanted to drop you a note to say... thank you for your comment about my Guide entry. If you can find someone patient / tolerant / psychologically unstable enough to show me the ropes in Guide ML, I'd be ever so grateful. I might even send you a Thain's pie!

Hi there, speff! Certainly glad to lend a hand. I just started a thread for you over below the entry itself with some GuideML help -- if you have any more questions about the GuideML or anything else, just post them for me there. Here's the link to it: F1860134?thread=481198

Oh, do you mean the entry on Koro, the bizarre Genital Retraction Syndrome. Yup, it's true -- I first read about it in the DSM-IV, which is the book that gives psychiatrists the info on how to diagnoses mental illnesses. It's a strange world.
Thanks for stopping by!
