One made an even better sound last night - the Key appears to have many uses, you know... *THUNK* I'll check them over very carefully before I plant them, then.
Gotta dash, off to work

They will be gone soon enough, once they have mated they disappear...or in my case....they disappear into the bin before any hanky-panky....what a spoil-sport eh!
don't work too hard.
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 17, 2006
Once they've mated, that what worries me - loads of the little buggers!

There is this place <./>http://www.just-green.com</.> They do a garlic spray, which the beetles don't like. It keeps them of your lillies. I was going to get some and try it, but the beetles must have known my intention and went away
Oh dear i've just had a thought, they were'nt on the plants i gave you were they?
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 18, 2006
I'm so sorry, it never occured to me to check them, as there were no lily family plants in them.
I feel awful that i've introduced a pest into your garden.
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 18, 2006
As I said, don't worry - I checked them very closely before I planted them, so I think I'll be ok
Got most of them planted today - didn't realise you'd given me more than one of some of them until I found I only had four left to id, but eight plants!
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 18, 2006
I had loads of seedlings to spare and thought you would want as many as i had time to pot up
I found some different ones yesterday I did'nt realise i had them at the time, you could have had some of those too.
Have you identified all of them now?
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 18, 2006
Yes, they're all identified Took some headscratching with the alkanet and comfrey (I think it was) as the leaves were described very similarly on both.
I've given them pride of place, along the border I didn't know what to do with, opposite the pond I've just got a few duplicates left to plant now, its going to look cracking
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 19, 2006
Oh yes, i thought you would have trouble with those two. They look the same when they are seedlings.
Will you be taking photos when the garden starts to grow?
I'm having the new carpet fitted next week Maybe then i will finally get that song out of my head!!
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 19, 2006
I'll be taking photos as it develops. I'm full of ideas at the moment, but trying to fit it all in is a bit of a hassle. Found some violets and mouseear in the lawn today on my patch
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 20, 2006
Which mouse-ear did you find? Its a rather sweet little plant dont you think?
The strong winds of the last couple of days, has damaged a couple of my plants My Phlomis which was over 6ft tall, has been reduced to shreads. It was only meant to grow to 4ft max, but had asperations of becoming a tree!
It was about to flower, now i'll have to wait untill next year to see it in bloom.
Is it today that you're making your debut as an umpire? and don't forget your hat!
So what ideas have you come up with?
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 20, 2006
Oh, no! I'm really sorry about your garden, I've only been doing mine a few months, it's not even finished and I'd be mortified if anything happened to it
I did my first umpiring game today, I think I did pretty well though some of the players from one team didn't seem to think so. Needless to say, they were the ones that lost by a long way...
It's hard to explain what I'm planning at the moment really, as it's mostly landscaping; where the path is going, boring stuff like that To be honest, I've worked so hard on it lately I need a couple of days off without even thinking about it

Thats the thing with gardening, once you start planning and creating your hooked!! With me, its now almost a obsession
You might want to take a look at this <./>A11889534</.> I thought it apt as i may have introduced it to a new area Its not finished yet though.
BTW i read your entry on the Burry man, oh boy! No wonder us english folks are seen as eccentric by foriegners

I'm off to do some late afternoon, rather tired type gardening now - this seems to involve ambling around slowly, looking at things while drinking tea and smoking I'm vaguely thinking about moving around some of the things I've inherited and planting a nice conifer, but I'm not sure if I can be bothered this afternoon!
You've made a pretty good start on that entry; you never know, this time next year I might be an expert on them too

I'm guessing you're not having the same wild weather down there then. I havent been near my garden in 2 days We've have wind and rain like you would'nt believe - my birdbath is over-flowing and i don't even want to think whats happening with the pond
Theres not a great deal of information about the beetle, it's mostly negative because of the damage it does. Quite honestly i think its an over-reaction, i havent seen anything about 'plagues' of them. They're just a nuisance rather than a threat.
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 22, 2006
Oh, its been quite wild here at times, too, but we've been getting good long sunny intervals in between - as you'd expect in sunny Devon
I managed to get most of the pond edging sorted out, and I've started transplanting roses around part of the edge to form a nice natural barrier too. Seems to be going quite well!
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 22, 2006
It may be warmer there, but we're in no danger of a water shortage anytime soon 'sigh'
I'm starting to stress over not being able to get in the garden and cut the grass
Oh and my bee orchids have started to bud 'Yippeeeeee!' I thought the late spring was going to prevent them from flowering.
Your garden is starting to come together eh! In 6 months it will have filled out and look lovely
Herb Robert and little Robin
Skankyrich [?] Posted May 22, 2006
It's getting there. I'm just too tired at the moment to put a serious day into it, which is what it needs
Good news on the bee orchids, though
Herb Robert and little Robin
~:*-Venus-*:~ Posted May 23, 2006
Maybe a break from the garden for a few days is what YOU need. Recoup some of your energy eh!
I've no chance of getting in mine untill at least the weekend (weather depending) Its a busy week for me. I have to try and demolish my settee tomorrow, so i can get it out of the flat. That should be fun! I think i may be inventing a few new words,
