I feel like a low and dirty human being... but there just wasn't any point to those conversations I no longer read.

There's certainly no poing in being subscribed if you're not reviewing at the moment. I unsubscribed a few days ago.

Why do you feel bad EMR?
I have never been subscribed to PR, and never intend to.

GB, I was a Scout for a couple years there, and so I stayed subscribed so that I'd know when new entries were submitted and could follow their progress. After I resigned from the Scouts, I stayed subscribed, because it symbolised a commitment I still had to h2g2.
That commitment is waning, and it's been quite a while since I've read any of the PR entries anyway. I have so little time or even inclination these days to go clicking through conversations I don't read that I decided to remove them from my list.
To me, though, this is where I'm forced to admit that h2g2 no longer has the place in my life that it did a couple years ago. I'm coming up on my third h2g2 birthday and everything has changed so much since 2004. I don't want to admit that h2g2 has changed and that I've changed as well.

Ah but you have changed dear Em.
You came to us an angry young lass and art now a woman of clearer views. H2G2 has served you well both as a pressure valve and a practice arena.
Unlike most you chose to repay that debt with service in the scouts and peer review. You are not betraying anyone by stepping aside and getting on with your life.
I hope that I will still hear from you from time to time, but understand if you feel that you need to move on.
The Sanctuary door is always open...
Blessings,
Matholwch .

It took me about two years to even find PR. Then I wandered away, and three years later I'm wandering back. I even left the building for year at one point. Everything changes.
Much as h2g2 has given me (and it has given me a lot, over the years), I've never lost sight of the fact that a) real life has to take precedence and b) both I and h2g2 change, otherwise life would be stagnant.
Be proud of what you have achieved. You can hold your head higher than most!

I think there is a well established hootoo phenononom that AGC Ben used to talk about where you tend to start losing faith and interest after about 2-3 years.
I certainly did, and whilst I still come on hootoo all the time I no longer have the same evangelistic fervour I used to have about this place.

EMR, you have described my exact situation. I have recently been considering unsubbing from PR too. Even after I left the Scouts I stayed subscribed, but these days I never read the Entries, let alone review, and generally just remove them from my conversations when they don't sound interesting. Which is usually pretty much every one. I haven't been as active here for about a year, and it makes me feel like a low and dirty human being too. Well, I guess I feel like that most of the time anyway.
You know, speaking of not being as active here, this is the first time I have posted in like, two weeks.

It's funny, because we arrived here about the same time and have been through the same cycles of increasing and waning enthusiasm right the way through our time here. I subscribed from PR a while ago, though (I was subbed because I liked to feel I could offer something to every Entry submitted) because I was just unsubbing from conversations because I didn't have time to read them all.
I don't feel guilty about it, though. I just have things to do that interest me more these days. Likewise, your priorities have changed too, so you shouldn't feel the slightest shred of guilt about unsubbing whatsoever. You did a cracking job while you were there.

Maybe we should do a study on enthusiasm in PR as correlated with Researcher experience... I seriously don't have the time though.

I've only been subbed to PR by accident (pressed the wrong button) and after being bombarded by lots of conversations that didn't intrest me I soon unsubbed myself.
I still take part in a lot of PR conversations now though. I'll just trawl through PR and take part in any conversations on entries that intrest me...

I suppose my apathy toward the guide and its process comes from my belief that in a "wiki" world the guide is utterly pointless....

I've never been subbed to Peer Review. I have major respect for everyone that is, or has been come to that, but I just pop in from time to time and read whatever sounds interesting. The problem is I'm doing it less and less. Haven't been to PR for weeks.

ou very controvesial!
I disagree wiki is very good for dry boring facts but h2g2 is generally much better for the unusual, human intrest or the humurous...compare some my edited entries for example to their wikipedia equivalents...I do try a lot to make my edited guide entries more hootoo than wiki (even if I fail to do this occassionally! )...
The Great British Breakfast...A103177

h2g2 really does have a lot of very well written and intresting entries...It's the hitchiker guide not the encyclopedia galactica!

I was going to write a post article about the cycle of enthusiasm, but I lost interest in it too quickly. I'm currently waning myself. Getting a shiny 25 badge might have contributed, or maybe just having too many things to do IRL, or maybe the fact that many of my old friends are dropping off h2g2 which gives me less of an incentive to spend time here. I've been posting shockingly sporadically recently - shocking to me, I mean. But I'm still subbed to PR, even if I rarely click into anything.

I'm subscribed to a ridiculous number of conversations, mainly because I'm subscribed to a ridiculous number of fora. I also refuse to unsubscribe from any conversation in which I have posted.
I'm doing a cull on my conversation list at the moment, but I think that, for now, I'll stay subscribed to all the fora, including <./>RF1</.>.
