Try to look at the image I'm going to post with no thoughts about mortality. Look at it as a piece of engineering. As a structure.

Isn't it mind-boggling?
And isn't it mind-blowing that this system evolved out of nothing?
Just think about it - I'm not making any point, or looking for you to agree, disagree or argue. Just spend five minutes appreciating bones, and let yourself be amazed.

Interesting journal choice, KB. I always thought that human anatomy showed that someone somewhere was a darn good designer.

Skeletons in general are pretty amazing, when you think about it. The spine does a fantastic amount of load bearing in a creature like a giraffe or a polar bear. It doesn't look like it should be up to the job, but it is!
You don't even have to go way back to the dawn of evolution to be amazed by what a crazy contraption the skeleton is. Even in one individual's lifetime, that whole intricate structure is created from not much more than a blob of water.
What an astounding universe.
