I have now got a plan B and a plan C if the scarf doesn't work out. Plan B is to turn it into a coat for the hound of the Baskervilles. Plan C is to feed it to him.

Speaking of work clothes (as I was back in post 1), I've just been made aware that my uniform allocation entitles me to two skirts - I didn't know about that or I would have claimed them!
I want to come in in a skirt, now. Maybe it's more of a Friday thing.
If I come in wearing a skirt, do you think I should shave/wax first?
I wonder what the skirts are like. I hope they aren't the kind of things a cop would wear.

Also, what is an acceptable hem length for the workplace? So many questions I didn't know I'd have to deal with today!

you don't have to shave/wax
an acceptable hem length - IMO - is that anything shorter than 3" above the knee is a no-no
current fashion is (I think) just below the knee. At this time of year great with knee length boots

I might need new boots. Most of my boots would give me an 80s punk chick vibe of I wore them with a skirt.
Three inches above the knee might be just high enough...
I hope there's pleats. I want pleats.

Yes, appropriate footwear is essential if you're going to wear a skirt. You can't just pull your Oxford brogues or your Hush Puppies or your workboots on (with dark socks ) and think it's okay. You could probably get away with DMs, but come the warmer weather you're going to want a nice pair of slingbacks And paint your toenails

And not the hiking boots!
If I wear them with a skirt I'll look like...I dunno...a cross-dressing farmer who's been interrupted in the cowshed or something...
I know how these people's minds work, though. Betcha the skirts are all dull and dowdy like this http://www.grahamegardner.co.uk/cs001-38930.html . In which case they'll definitely need doctored.

Boots can work well with a kilt, but I wouldn't try matching them with floral print frock, a polka-dot summer dress or a little black number
Okay, if I mis-spell polka-dot as polka-dor, how come polka-dot is the *fourth* suggestion in the Firefox spellchecker after polka-rod, polka-for and polka-doe? I've never heard of any of those

Polka-doe...
I'm trying to sing "Doe, a deer, a female deer..." to a polka beat, but I can't quite make it work.

ahem. I often wear my (purple ) docs with thick black tights and a short skirt and baggy jumper in winter. I am basically the same as I was when I was 18.
I also wear my docs with long skirts too. I wear high heels with short and long skirts depending on my mood (and how far I have to walk)
in short: wear whatever footwear takes your fancy (but yes - with open toed shoes, always ALWAYS use toenail varnish)
also I've realised that 3" above the knee might be a bit conservative. The one I'm wearing today (black sack dress, plaid patterned thick black tights and knee length boots) is more like 5" above... (Very Important Visitor I Have To Impress today)

As sexy as your gothy, punky look is, I don't know if I'd get away with it at work
I've seen the skirts now. I knew it - they look suspiciously like the old RUC uniforms. They must have flogged us all the ones they didn't sell to strippers when the got new uniforms.

Btw...how important does one have to be to warrant a five-incher? Is there a guide anywhere I can consult?

5 inch above the knee you wazzock.
And as you saw elsewhere, it was in honour of our Investor Relations team coming over to blind us with statistics and what not. The guy just stared at my knees the whole time

In fairness, I'm sure it's a more arresting sight than a PowerPoint presentation about sales figures and turnover.
Key: Complain about this post
