The Dawn of Humanity
Posted Apr 12, 2008
Ugh stops to sniff for danger, then contiunes down the dried and cracking mud path, the rest of the group strung out behind him, moving at various gaits and pausing for various reasons... usually to pick a berry or two or pluck a tasty grub out from under a loose piece of bark.
One child, Ooo, near the tail end of the ragged line, squats and gazes in contemplation at a large indentation in the hard pack... cracks have formed around it in the relentless sunshine and it seems to have almost lifted itself up out of the existing plane. She tilts her head in fascination, then her hands reach forward and her fingers prise the footprint out of the ground... it comes up easily and she has, now, encircled by her arms as she hurries to catch up with the others, an object that could hold something... . . a lot of something... . .
The path opens out into a small, sunlit, shallow valley filled with berry bushes... the kind of berries that are small, succulent, delicate but oh so delicious and nourishing. All fan out and settle down to feast, plucking and glutting and just generally having a jolly old time. After a while, Ugh notices the sun is touching the treetops at the far end of the little valley and he grunts to the group and starts down the path again... knowing they must find safe haven before the Dark comes.
Ooo, having arrived late to the valley, has not eaten her fill, and quickly snatches and drops handfuls of berries into her dried clay object as she runs to catch up with the now fast moving troupe...

Terry Pratchett ?!
Posted Apr 4, 2008
last nite my sister, whom i just turned on to Terry Pratchett, told me he has early onset alzheimers...
...she had known for a while but only told me last nite as she knew how much he means to me and felt it might devastate me...
...too weary by the news, i did not log on to the internet last nite to research it... and only today started looking up the info...
is there a thread dedicated to this? how did i miss it? it was news in december... and evidently there was an interview on television with him about it fairly recently.
i would like to know the thread(s) and any links and also info on how i might view the interview or any other media stuff...
it is just not fair
