Hi psi
//I conclude we agree.//
You might be right.
I didn't think we *did* disagree on the (extended) naturalistic fallacy.
I thought we might possibly differ on this from your penultimate post:
'And my position is that you cannot necessarily transfer arguments from the one to the other. So if we suppose that a coherent account might be given one day for why some axioms tend to be chosen time and again across cultures, this cannot be imported into the TAFE'
which as you rightly point out (same) post
'(and if that attempt were made it would fall to the reverse Euthyphro in any case).'
So you are right that the issue is not Euthyphro on which we seem to agree completely.
I have slight reservations about a coherent account' being sufficient. It is a bit 'just so' for me:
'a neat adaptive explanation of the evolution of some trait that does not rest on any evidence beyond its own internal logic.'
but if we go for an evidenced 'coherent account' then we don't disagree even on this.
anonymous address: Sorry about this - nothing to do with you or jank personally. Somebody who had my e-mail address got ripped of and I suffered from a very nasty, non cash related, identity theft and it involved a large amount of pain and hassle to clear it up.
I'll sort out a university drop off point. The offer is much appreciated.
I had formed an idea from your Forcione comment that you were a session musician
I am going to have to persuade jank to make DIIC oeuvre downloadable. I love the whole 'bipolar' lyricist thing
must dash. I am trying an end run on end of TMB threads to get out of premod

Psiomniac Posted Jun 3, 2008
That sounds like total agreement to me. Hurrah again!
Although I did play on the same bill as Forcione a couple of times, I'm not a session musician, no. They are a particular breed.
Just let me know when you sort out a drop point.
Hurrah
Bx4 Posted Jun 3, 2008
hi psi
Hurrah: A complete wrap and after the fat lady left the stage.
So that only leaves degrees of slack cutting for atheists...........
.....and Quine/Dennett, Kant and Haldane:
A particular breed: I know I've met a few ( I *was* an habitue of slightly (to very) dodgy basement jazz/rock clubs in my youth). I wonder if jank would appreciate Pete Atkins 'Wristwatch for a Drummer'?
Drop point: Will do. Couple of days, probably

Hi jank
Busy today but I just thought a quick update on my attempt to subvert the Wunderground network.

Note I have also suborned another Wunderground webcam.

I have been put into premod on all threads for upsetting Peta.
I may be gone for some time or forever.
If the latter it has been fun
Be seeing you or not

Psiomniac Posted Jun 5, 2008
Er....what did you do? (Be as euphamistic as necessary).
In durance vile
jankaas Posted Jun 6, 2008
second that HUH?! what on earth happened.......? (easy on the code please, i'm still working on PETA.....)
In durance vile
Psiomniac Posted Jun 6, 2008
No problem.
With any luck you should get a package today.
In durance vile
jankaas Posted Jun 6, 2008
package; excellent. must say i'm looking forward to hearing it. the stuff you have on your webthingy is absolute top drawer noodling this is meant as a high compliment, the term noodling being taken as per Zappa when describing freeform (is there any other..?) soloing....
noodling; as in "brain out, heart & sould plugged in....
i see this in stark contrst to "shredding". but then i am a drummer 1st and foremost......i may just be making all this up!
In durance vile
Psiomniac Posted Jun 6, 2008
No, I think you have it about right. Shredding is very precise, athletic and scripted and so I find it rather dull. At heart, I'm an improvising musician. The best drummers are like that too I think.

hi psi
Euphemistically: an excess of irreverent iconclasm possibly including but not restricted to:
Questioning the official line on the 'last taboo'
engaging in an activity well described in a Tom Wolfe essay published in association with his other 'Radical Chic' essay
Describing the Host of the POV board as a founder of the BBC (adjectival form)+ another name for a piece of equipment(truncated) + juvenile form of hen (last two give a russian word)
Referring somewhat dismissively to the talents of a very highly paid late night talk show host
Referring somewhat dismissively to the spokepersons who appear on 'Feed back' as 'interceptors of Gernan AA fire'
PETA
Bx4 Posted Jun 6, 2008
Morning jank:
PETA: As psi has pointed out Peta is the putative host on the POV board.
Of course their is actually no individual Peta unless she pull 12 hour shifts. Of course it could be an acronym for Probablistic Enhanced Turing Algorithm

Ha ha good one bx4! Appara(tus)chick I am guessing?
Reithian?
I just read some of that thread and it didn't seem overly naughty on your part, though there was a post hidden so....
Alice wouldn't have put you in premod you for that I don't think.

Bx4 Posted Jun 6, 2008
Hi psi
guess: Spot on. Like to have go at the Tom Wolfe
hidden post: That was the one about Feedback, the talent of a late night chat show presenter, and 'interceptors of German AA fire'.
I don't think their was anything it that would justify its being hidden let alone a my being place univerally in durance vile.
Do you think there might be a medal for this? My mantlepiece still has a few empty spaces
Perhaps I was showing unacceptable anti-authoritarian tendencies or perhaps Turing algorithms have no sense of satire or irony
Alice: I still think Alice was real

Psiomniac Posted Jun 6, 2008
I'm afraid I haven't read the Wolfe and I doubt you mean you have been Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers or Stalking the Billion-footed Beast. So I'm at a loss there.
In durance vile
Bx4 Posted Jun 6, 2008
hi psi
Doubt: You are wrong to do so though I may have extended Wolfe's notion of 'interceptors of German AA fire somewhat' and the techniques clearly had to be adapted to a different interactive medium and cultural context.

Well I still think your punishment is disproportionate.
Key: Complain about this post
