morning Bored,
follwed your suggestion and opened an account......actually if i'm honest i thought i hadn't fully done so but the machinery says i'm in.
i'll be dipping in and out, but as i've no idea if this will reach you, or how to spot a reply it may take some getting used to.

Morning Jank
Good to see you here.
Liked the joke by the way. Pretty much AFK at the moment
At least here I don't have to be oblique about Diskin and DIID without invoking the ire of the dementors.
I really need to listen to listen to it a couple more times.
I like it but I have a slight problem. My aged ears can't make out the lyrics on some of the louder numbers so I may miss the point of some of the lyrics.
Quite impressed by your drumming on both.
I had sent my gd the links to DIID and while talking to my daughter on the phone she mentioned she had heard of Diskin.
We had a large lorry load of stuff arrive mostly books, cds and vinyll that we had never unpacked on the island so I am committed to making a shelving system at the moment
Whart with that and work involvement on Today boards will be a bit limited.
Maybe not to bad a thing give the general rubbish on the 'sharia' thread

jankaas Posted Mar 30, 2008
glad that this is so userfriendly. as my 8 year old would say "it's pips" (something to do with easy peasy lemon....)
definite advantage to be able to talk freely about anything, but as i can see from your "shelf-gate" thread it's not all Dury Trinity
the Diskin album is an odd beast to say the least. at this point in the band's career we knew it was going to be the very last thing Beggars would spend on. we set about eeking out the meagre budget and "built" a small studio near Newcastle. it became known as the "TB ward" where we spent around 10 months writing and recording. lots of red wine and "mushroom tea" as well as plenty of cake.....
we would record our efforts, completely disembowel what we had made, and cut and paste to create something bizarre. this we would then have to learn to play and arrange into what's on the record. an odd process that means it takes a few listens to "get it". influences range from Prince through Husker Du and the Beastie Boys to Schoenberg.......
we had some of the best reviews i've ever known from both the NME and Metal Hammer (go figure), but sadly our fanbase hated it.....
if you do want to know what the lyrics are all about just ask. though the DIIC lyrics are on another plane as my singer has bipolar disorder. it's all selfpity and massmurderers..........
good luck with the shelves!

pips. Another example of the linguistic invention of the younger janks.
I agree about the user friendly and you can't be off-topic. Can't easily do quote boxes but not really needed.
Have you come across the facility on My Space that allows you to prune old discussions on other boards.
h2g2 seems to be engagingly eccentric
Trinity: More so than you might think see earlier discussions on the (pre-shelf) thread. Remembering your point about the boringness of sitting about hippies. I have always inclined to the mosaic personae tendency.
Diskin: I might ask you for the lyrics later. I had thought I might isolate the separate tracks. However given the apparently minimalist Newcastle studio this may not be possible.
Influences: My tastes are quite varied running to world music (from before it was called such), rock, modern jazz and classical but my tastes are eclectic and there are gaps. One such was punk much of which didn't do it for me.
I was seriously into 'prog rock' at the time and a lot of the more experimental modern classical composers, Ligeti, Nono, Reich etc. Though oddly I got into the 'grunge' bands later.
DIIC/bipolar: Saw the blog. I can see the problem let me know when EP comes out.
Shelves: The first tranche of bookshelves are completed final varnish is being applied (though not by me).
Next phase is shelving for black vinyl. I have an urge to listen to Country Joe and the Fish and MC5
Coffee break over back to work

you do My Space...?! wow you really are keeping up. i had a quick go but lost interest almost immediately. the only people there asking to be my "friends" these days are peddlers of soft porn....
Driven to Collision have a site there also, maintained by Mr Bipolar himself!
and you'll be fine with the Diskin album, it was recorded and mixed in "proper" studios. the TB ward was just for pre-production and trying to find a new approach to "the wheel" that is guitar based music. i don't have a handy lyric sheet as we were, to quote the guitarist; "poonk as fook". so let me know which ones in particular grab your interest and i'll get typing....
anyhoo, must dash. a quick game of Buckaroo with my daughter and then rehearsing with DIIC.......

Jank;
My Space: An excess of cake? Next time you type a post here look at menu on left. Third down
BTW a local reliable souree of excellent cake has been found
Mr Bipolar: I found on the other My Space when tracking down the later DIIC oeuvre. Is he the author of the blog on the DIIC site which reports his current status?
Lyrics: I fiddle about first, thanks. I have to try and link my PC to my system anyway to listen to listen to the BYB 2007 Atran lecture.
Buckaroo. The gd occasionally pops up demanding I play on-line C&C3 but she is at a 'festival' this weekend.
Rehearsal: How do you rehearse given poky status Mr. B-P? Or is he currently out?
I will be largely AFK and you will see that rg and I are attempting 'a steely resolve' with respect to the Evil Empire threads.
I am thinking of adding the 'Sharia' one. Dulcinella and the Hildalgos are getting a bit tedious.
I see you have plunged into the 'Christian Topic'. Who *is* Leonard James?
enjoy buckaroo.

howdy Bored,
sorry about the random participation here, it's just the way i am.....
glad you've found cake locally, is it affecting your DIY abilities re "shelf-gate"......?
DIIC; rehearsals went well, Bonkers (as he's affectionately known) was on top form and we even wrote a new ditty. it's kindoff surfey in a Rocket From The Crypt way, v loud and v fast.
and believe it or not he also manages to look after our Myspace site. the bassplayer and myself thought it would be good therapy for him to have something to do. oh, and his spell in poky (aka Das Nuthause) was only for a couple of weeks when he had quite a bad "turn". he fully endorses the "craze-ometer" that is on the driventocollision.com site, though as you can see it hasn't been updated for several months.
stiil, seeing as "Death to Intolerance" has still not been mixed (recorded in May 2006!!) you can see that our work ethic needs a serious kick up Das Rear...
laters.

random: one of the joys of H2G2is that you can do this. No 'WRONG' driver.
I have used h2g2 My Space to pretty much unsubscribe from Today threads. Though I see you have restarted 'school uniform' on Sharia so I might get sucked in again if 'hate mail' subsides.
BTW. on 'CatC' thread CM1 into conspiracy theories.
Cake/Shelfgate: Not really my Dury Trinity more beat generation than hippie. Apart from brief period of too much cake in 60s I avoid this. Saw too many people crash and burn.
Had a cake night on Monday. Included search for legendary Purple Onion.
Rehearsal/ditty. Glad it went well and that Mr. B_P functional. Presumably new ditty will be posted on my space. Much more importantly, who won Buckaroo.
kick up rear: Fame and fortune clearly not motivator.

Evening Jank .
Slightly hors d at the moment.
Trevor: 90p/h Shades of 'when I was a lad we were so poor that......' Perhaps he was a boy chimney sweep? Sadly diminished our Trevor since his glory days.
Stuck in: Got sucked in my self a bit. In the absence creationists poked a few Dawkinists instead. Any idea what this whole weird thing of referring to him as 'Richard' is about. Bit spooky.
sharia: Staying well out of it - sofa time for me.
Feel a bit guilty I woke the troll on another thread by claiming all her rants were of a standard form, The Triple Informal Fallacy Gambit (TIFG) did a post which was a sort of logical joke about it.
She never got it. Told her that another poster, psiomniac would have spotted it in about 3 seconds. mea culpa
Anyhow, imposition of school uniforms - a model for the argument that the need for 'social cohesion' outweighs the rights of the individual?

good morning Bored,
hope Hamburg shelf-gate is going well, SO is with you, cells are ripe for poking, and cake is on the menu.
Paris was a hoot, my best mate (can one still have a best mate in middle age...?) was excellent company, though i still don't like his single malts. even great ones.....
thanks for clearing up AFK. i do go through life at times not having the foggiest what certain expressions mean. example; when i was in China Drum they kept talking about an audience of "one eggs" whenever we played gigs at universities. after about 6 months i finally asked what they meant. (imagine a thick Geordie accent)"why man, it's because when you have a look inside a student's fridge, all you'll find is 1 egg".....
am trying to cut down on the MB postings but as i've had a bit of terrible family news (cousin v ill, she has 2 young kids) i can't resist taking it out on assorted trolls and Chrispies....
also i am now able to play my instruments again. i had a seemingly innocuous finger injury. detached tendon on left middle finger, result of showing a certain party trick of mine to my son. though this time i heard a sharp "snap" and the end of that finger just hung there....couldn't extend it.....doh!
full recovery for this is 6 months to 1 year!........v depressing not being able to even attempt to play drums, guitar or piano for 3 months. but, for a few weeks now i've managed to make some noise, and strangely enough at the same time my alcohol consumption and MB posting has plummeted....
will stay in touch though.
hoi,
Paris

Paris: Glad you had a good time. The SO and I pottered up to Copenhagen to see some friends the same weekend.
Shelfgate: Nearly done. The SO returns to the UK next weekend so I need to finish to avoid the varnishing.
Malts: Depends on which kind you were exposed to the peaty Islay malts, which I favour are, like Marmite, an acquired taste. The Highland, Speyside or Campelltown one are more accessible.
AFK: Your welcome. I had to ask rg when I first came across
Cousin: Sorry to hear news.
MB postings: I am also disengaging to a great extent. Too busy, too much reading to catch up on and too many gegners on Today boards.
Also back on island mid May to getting the boat back in water and tooling about on boxer will take up most of my time. Also notional 'retirement' proving illusory.
Never really got into Science () board or the religious(early bathtime) boards.
I signed up around the time the 'delusion' thread was starting and formed an erroneous impression of how interesting the boards were.
Finger: Bad news. Will latest D2C release be delayed. Still enjoying Diskin. Reduction in alcohol not a bad thing. Stick to cake and away from more dangerous drugs. Apart from Islay Malts, Cloudy Bay Chardonnay and tequila -I mostly stay away. Forever and Always a cake man
Staying in touch: Do

Just passing through.
Party last night prior to SO's depature. Diskin was played and appreciated by guests. D2C publicised.
I hope this makes up for the disabled finger a little.

good morning Bored,
Copenhagen; one of my faves from the good 'ol touring days. though the Tivoli gardens seemed permanently closed for some reason or other. still, for the lovers of cake there's the relaxed Kristiana area
retirement; yep, if you will have all those hobbies and keep on working then the term is not exactly fitting. i think you are more of a part-timer, way to go!!
'delusion' thread; funny how i assumed that you were an old hand on these boards. we both started at about the same time i guess, and likewise i thought it a jolly good place to spend my time. such a shame "they" closed it down, i would have happily kept it going for quite some time.... i still can't help myself from dipping into the odd thread here and there, but at least i've cut down.
party; don't you ever stop? have you no shame..... glad to hear your friends enjoy quality music, maybe this is the start of a renaissance and i should try and tempt the others out of retirement for a comeback extravaganza......? do you know of any weddings or barmitzvas where we would go down well......or maybe your next party??
groetjes,
Paris

Morning jank
Copenhagen. Also one of my favourite cities which I have visited on and of since my youth.
Kristiana: Sadly in decline since its glory days.
Tivoli: I have never visited it. I have an avoidance thing about most of the standard 'sights' in cities. Might be a book in it.
As not infrequently occurs these days, despite my best intentions, the 'sight' I seem to visit most is the local 'molbiol' lab
Retirement: Strangely since my 'retirement' 10 years ago I seem to be coming progressively less retired year on year. I may have to revise my status to 'semi-retired'
Hobbies: the original plan of my retirement was to give me time to pursue them.
'delusion' thread. I think I first registered about a month before the thread appeared. I think psi and ww (who seems to have dropped of the radar) were the 'old hands'. The 'death' thread may be its replacement.
Shame: None. It's a cliche but 'life isn't a rehearsal'. Carpe diem.
Drum, reformation of: No, never go back. If D2C ever get its act together there might be a gig.........
I am doing moderately well in not getting sucked in. I thought I was doing very well with only a exchange with bi2 on the science thread on bonding and structure in DNA.
Sadly, I got sucked in again by the witterings of 'naive' atheists. I mean you expect illogical tosh from theists but........
The finger I trust is improving and you are minimising the likelihood of damage by avoiding trying to impress your children with further tricks involving drumming digits?

hi Bored
sorry it's been a week or so but then that's just how i am.....i do always enjoy reading what you leave here so pls do continue.
today my wife and i are off to Valencia, sans kids, for a couple of nights.
the Trevor shelfstacking joke made a brief re-appearance yesterday on the fighting faith thread, but then sank without trace. Trevor didn't rise to the bait. ah well, i'll have to get my cheap laughs somewhere else...
glad you're still mentioning diskin once in a while, hope it's melodic memes are revealing themselves....
