Only just found this thread and all I can say (and repeat endlessly) is Chocolate.

I was smoking up to 60 cigarettes a day when I stopped on 1 November 1992 and on 2 February 1993 I felt sooooooooo!! down that I lit up. I was then soooooooooo!! ill that I threw the cigar away and bought a very large bar of chocolate. I felt so much better after eating half of it I kept a supply in the fridge for the bad cravings.

It worked. I have been off smoking for 12 years. I still get the craving occasionally (yes even now!) but I know what it is and it goes away without the chocolate these days. Doesn't stop me enjoying a bar of chocolate now and then!.

It took me at least 5 attempts to stop so don't worry too much or feel bad. Nicotine addiction is actually worse than heroine addiction (not that I am recommending you try that as an alternative!?).

although now ill have to learn to like chocolate (but im sure theres something else i could substitute the chocolate for)

god i love advice, although ive decided to wait till new years to quit (i keep putting this off and off and off )

You will succeed if you stop when you are ready mentally. That's why it took me so many attempts. Don't promise to do it on New Year's day. leave it for a week!

Sounds like last week was challenging for all of us. I was smoking consistently too. *sigh*

However, this morning I stuck on half a patch and I'm going at it fresh, once again. I'm sure my lungs enjoyed the break they got even though it wasn't permanent yet.

Today I think I'll go for a bikeride along the beach and I'll send y'all some crisp, sunny beach-juju as a perker-upper.

How are you all? Not having much success by the look of things..

You cant have had any less success than me, got through 200 duty free cigs last week (as well as small lake's worth of booze) and my lungs really know about it.

I have brought 200 more home with me (yeah, stupid i know) but my plan is to make them last over xmas and new year (not a good time to stop with all the parties etc) and then when i finish the last one, to stop. hopefully by then ill be so sick of them i'll want to...

I will have the added incentive of a £20 bet off my mate who spent the whole holiday whinging at me for smoking.

So far so good this week . I'm cutting patches in half and using them to take the edge off, and I'm making it a point to stay busy either in places where I can't smoke or do something that engages my hands. My knitting is coming along quite nicely now.

The holiday was good ta, a much needed break from the drudge. Was nice and sunny for first half of week, but rained alot the second half. Drunk far too much, played crazy golf and lots of pool, sat on the beach and drove around the island (Gran Canaria)

funny story regarding crazy golf and holiday and booze



we went to tenerife a few years back, and one day decided to play crazy golf, and there was a beer stand on the course selling very very very nice local lager called tropic, well after 7 pints with the sun beating down i guess i got a little tipsy and i kinda over swing my club floowed through and fell into a cactus which shredded my arm a bit... another scar to add to my collection
