When I was in the 4th yr of secondary school (whatever that is in modern money - Pingu?) I was head librarian (great place to hang out at lunch as no one ever went in there! Certainly not the 'cool' kids ) they revamped it with a load of PCWs much to my delight as it meant I could use some of my home CP/M stuff one the school computers.
I also seem to recall we might have modified the entries for some books and placed (in)appropriate ID numbers for some books.
Pingu:
Easy intro languages. BASIC is still one of the best. Although I guess these days it'd be Visual Basic (VB) which is an MS language.
There's various tutorials on the web.
You could also try the scripting languages. Something like Python or PERL would be good especially as they are current. Again, you can find on line howtos on t'web.
I'll have a hunt around when I get a moment.

Lurking is what I do. But what brings me here is that I'm subscribed to Pingu's journal.
php is a nice little programming language designed for the Web, but I believe it can also be used for desktop software. A bit of php and a little javascript are the only computer languages I know. They're very useful, though.

ah, I see!
Yeah, php is ok but it is fairly specific in its intent and links to hypertext though.
OTOH you get to wear the 'PHP kicks ASP' t-shirt if you so want
