Time Out

I haven't written my journal for a couple of days (flying yesterday was one reason). And I won't be for the next few days - a long weekend in Amersterdam and a day with UNESCO in Paris explain that. One day though my mobile phone will log seemlessly into h2g2 and that'll change a lot.

Feeling smug

Had out first Hay diet meal last night. Feeling a bit smug about it, if I'm honest.

Unstuff it

Ever heard of the Hay Diet?

Its mysteriously known as a Combining Diet, which doesn't make an awful lot of sense to me because the whole idea is to eat proteins like meat and cheese separately from carbohydrates like bread and potatoes - not (as the name suggests) combining proteins and starch which most of us do with such favourites as the all American Big Mac or the Quaint Britain's Fish and Chips. And - its not a diet.

Anyway Vera and I are starting out on this new idea because both of us are fit enough to know good health can't last for ever but might be pro-longed. Want to know more?

I'll start with the fact that it is not really new; a Dr Hay came across it by chance in the 1930's when he set out to cure himself of a whole lots of things and ended up curing himself of all of them and a whole lot more

Cycle capes

I cycle - have done for years now because it's the best way round London. Cycling in London means rain. And there's been a change. In my old days every cyclist had a cycle cape - a bright yellow human umbrella. Today, on my way into Covent Garden, it was raining hard. And I didn't see a single other cyclist wearing one. Instead they just got wet. Which seems strange to me.
