kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

Ah. Our chalks were coloured, and it is easier to say chalks than 'pieces of chalk' all the time smiley - biggrin

Especially as we'd have had 'boxes of pieces of chalk'.

'Chalks' is much better... smiley - nahnah

"Boxes of chalk" still works. It's like cheese, I have a cheese sandwich, not a slices of cheese sandwich.

smiley - nahnah to you too.

TJ's a Buckeye, because Ohio is called "The Buckeye State" and that's where he's from! And he went to Ohio State University, where the sports teams are called "The Ohio State Buckeyes", so he's *really* a Buckeye!

Sadly we don't have a Buckeye state, or even a Conker County.
If we did and it was Hampshire, I'd be a Conker.

UK:Whisky
US:Whiskey.
Probably had that one.

Not true, though, sorry. Sure, Americans make whiskey, but so do the Irish. Whisky is specifically Scottish (or rather, Scotch).

Mmmmmm, whisky...

Ah, but southern ireland isn't UK.

Yes, but to me the distinction depends on the provenance of the drink, not of the speaker.

Okay
US/Ireland: Whiskey
Scotland: Whisky.

UK: 1 gallon = 4.546 litres
US: 1 gallon = 3.785 litres.

I think I've done this one:

UK: 1 ton = 1016 kg
US: 1 ton = 907.19 kg.

i wonder why that is... that the measurements are so different. is that only true for measuring quantity or weight? what about distance?

No, miles are miles. The gallons thing is basically because a US pint is 16 fl. oz. instead of 20. In both systems a gallon is eight pints. I think the US ton is what the British sometimes call a short ton. Americans don't know what a stone is, either (14 lbs, by the way).

stone... yeah, that's that rock-type projectile that when thrown correctly will 'skip' across the surface of a lake smiley - tongueout

actually, i knew the equivelent of stone, i learned it on h2g2 smiley - biggrin unfortunately at the same time i learned how many stone i weigh smiley - blue

oh yeah, and if a skipping stone weighed 14 lbs it wouldn't skip anywhere. smiley - winkeye

What's a skipping stone? Is that the same as a skimming stone?

American Miles are slightly shorter aswell, I think.

I dunno if they're the same or not. I know what a skipping stone is, but what's a skimming stone?
