I'm w**king during the new year ... or at least up *until* the new year. TJ's w**king too, so I'm not missing much ... especially since my parents are staying over tonight, and insist on parking themselves on the couch, and not in the bed as we insist. *sigh* I don't get them. They have a flight tomorrow morning at 9:30. They need to be there 3 hours early, because of all the new security measures in place. We could leave around 5am, but they want us to leave for the airport at 2am when TJ gets off w**k ... which means they won't go to bed. I really don't understand them. They think they're putting us out by this, and no matter what I tell them, they won't listen to the fact that it's nothing. *sigh again*
How long now, pheloxi?

Ooh, New Year's Eve is always so exciting!
I love to stay up till midnight
to see if the new year actually does
arrive. It doesn't have to, you know.
It could take one look at the world
the way it is, and tell 2002 to hang on
for another year.

I usually fall asleep long before midnight.
But I had a little nap today, so I may manage to stay awake until the ball drops, the red rose rises, the giant smoked sausage drops, the goat drops, and the giant pickle drops.
*realizes all that will probably spark a few questions*

You get lotsa stuff dropping down there in PA!
Paul, my parents leave chilly N.Y. for the sunny Caribbean every winter. They go to the little island of Bequia: A579053
The largest cost is flying down there. It's not a huge touristy place, so there aren't big hotels or anything ... I think the largest one has 16 rooms. They rent a small cottage for about $400 a month, and spend 3 months there. I haven't been to visit in a couple of years, and I really miss it!

The ball drops in NY City of course.
The red rose rises in Lancaster.
The giant smoked sausage drops in Lebanon (it's actually a giant lebanon bologna).
The goat drops in Falmouth.
The giant pickle drops in Dillsburg.
You'll notice of course that Lancaster is the only place that rises to the occasion.

A packet of yeast in a cup of warm water?
No, I think they've got some kind of hydraulic thing for it...
I saw it on the news earlier this evening, and it just looked sort of like a small platform that is raised on an expandable pole - I've never braved the cold and crowds in downtown Lancaster on New Years Eve to find out.
Probably couldn't stay awake that long anyway.

The crowds in downtown Lancaster? *snicker*

Lady Scott Posted Jan 1, 2003
Considering the size of downtown Lancaster and the number of people who try to squeeze in there, yeah, the crowds in downtown Lancaster.
All things are relative, you understand.

You mean I shouldn't have brought up your relatives at a time like this?
