My Daily Life and Calming Relaxing Places

Hello, and Welcome to my new Journal. I will still be doing the Allotment Diary but the days I am not at the plot I can report on here!!smiley - biggrin

WEDNESDAY 15TH NOVEMBER, 2006

Weather today is windy, dull and showery. All in all a very depressing day!!smiley - sadface

I am in the middle of my next project. I have to do something to take my mind of things and keep busy. I am in constant pain with my spine but I do bits at a time, have a sit down, bar of chocolate (I have been told to strictly cut down but I am a chocoholic!!) Then after a rest I go and do a little more before having to take another break.smiley - teasmiley - cakesmiley - choc

I have 2 sheds down my garden, the one on the left is the main one but is full of junk which has been thrown in there over the years and not sorted out properly!! The one on the right is a small 6 x 3 one which I used as a hide, somewhere to relax without being disturbed where I can watch the birds and wildlife. But over the past 6 months this has also became a dumping ground!!smiley - erm

I have decided to sort out the 6 x 3 shed and have that to put the stuff I want to keep from the larger shed and then I can have the larger one as my relaxing place, my hide!!smiley - oksmiley - coolsmiley - ale

I have finally finished sorting out the 6 x 3 today and it just needs some shelving put up and then it is ready for action!!smiley - ok

Then it is the task of sorting out the larger shed. This does need some work doing to it because it is quite old but I don't mind. This shed has been used for many things in the past including to develop photographs before the digital camera's came into force.smiley - magic

It has been boarded out with thin boarding inside and then painted black which is when it was used for the photo developing. The task I aim to do is to clear it out, take down the boarding and see what sort of state it is at the back of there. I know that there are a few field mice also living in there nibbling things so I will have to evict them!!smiley - run

I am pretty sure they are living behind all of this boarding but won't know without first sorting it out and then starting work on it.smiley - runsmiley - erm

It keeps me occupied and stops me from getting too depressed!!smiley - cheerupsmiley - wah

I will keep you informed on a daily basis how far this project has got and what I have done if anything!!!

Some days I am able to do a bit but on bad days I find it difficult even getting down the garden. It varies so much from day to day.smiley - biggrinsmiley - ermsmiley - wah

My Allotment Diary

Saturday 4th November

Weather has been sunny and not too cold today, started off a bit frosty but soon cleared to leave some glorious sunshine.smiley - biggrin

I went down to my allotment this morning with dad (my labourer!!) and we are slowly putting back all the big pile of dirt which we dug out when I first took on the plot. smiley - ok

When I first took my plot on we dug out all of the weeds and piled it all up the top of the plot. Well, it has been up there for 2 years now rotting away to create a lovely crumbly soil once broken down.

We are about half way now and I can't do much but supervise and make the tea!! but I do enjoy going down just to sit and watch the birds (feathery type!!) and just have a look around at whats growing and what isn't. smiley - teasmiley - cake

My neighbour at the plot next to me has put up a peanut feeder for the birds. I saw blue-tits and sparrows and even a bull-finch which was very exciting to me!! There are all kinds of unusual birds flying across down there and could sit for ages just watching.smiley - cool

The brussel sprouts are not doing brilliant. They have been covered in white fly for months now and so has everybody else's so I am glad I am not alone!! I may get a few for christmas though.smiley - cheers

The leeks are doing wonderful. Have grown two types this year, Musselborough which are very slow and White Star which are doing wonderful and taste delicious. They took a bit of getting going with the slugs eating them or the mice!! but now they have and are ready to eat. I will be having a couple with my Sunday dinner tomorrow!!smiley - tongueout

That is all I have to report at the momment but pleased of how it is going and as all this rotted down pile is being dug in, it will improve the soil a lot and hopefully give it back the nutrients it needs!!

I hopefully should have potatoes the size of footballs next year!!smiley - magic
