My brother-in-law had his gall bladder out
a couple years ago. The only thing he can't
eat now is chowder.
Yeah, gal bladder problems are apt to run in
families. Some people don't have any problems
till quite late in life, while others have them
early.
Glad to hear you're doing better, Jim. Here's
a loo brush .

here's another from me!
And please *don't* fiddle around with the computers in the hospital, no matter how severe your withdrawal symptoms might be!

Thanks for the crossed fingers - it now looks as if he may be discharged tomorrow. He's been on solid food since lunchtime with no ill effects.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I am sure his recovery will be speedier once he is at home with you all.

Well, I'm back.
Things took a little longer than I'd hoped - I'll put all the gory details in a journal entry later - but I'm at home now, and have been told that it'll be 6-8 weeks before I'm completely recovered, and 3-4 weeks before I should think about going back to work.
However, since I found out this morning that there might be a problem with the upgrade, it looks like I'm going to have to do a bit of work before my rest and recuperation can really start.
I haven't read this thread yet, but I thought I'd let people know I'm back.

"The only thing he can't eat now is chowder"
You sure that isn't an excuse because he hates chowder?
The doctor told me, quite specifically, that I can now eat *anything* and don't need to restrict my diet at all. Although I might try and keep the fat levels down to lose some weight (yeah right). It'll be nice to sample some of the great curries I've been missing since Christmas.

Jim, you said: "

Is this something you would do from home?

Ooh, let's get the ol' computer closer to
the window, so we can see better as we open
her up. Oops! Too close to the window. Oh, no!
Anybody want to buy a computer for parts?

I've got dial-up access to the BBC network, from where I can remote control the DNA test server, which is what I needed to look at. Only a paltry 128K ISDN line unfortunately - the BBC have yet to work out how to give me ADSL, which would cut their bills drastically.

Don't sit in the same position for more than 15 minutes. Set the alarm or a kitchen timer.(Are you still wearing aircraft socks?) I know you're indispensable, but you've also had a major op and you're supposed to be on sick leave.Don't get cramp in the misused muscles. Fingers still crossed (not quite so tightly)

That's good advice, . I tended to sit still in bed for long periods, and as a result, I have a recurring cramp in my bum, which gives me more pain than the wound ever does.
I find sleeping in bed to be most problematic. I've been sleeping sitting up before now, but last night I tried lying down, but with my knees up on a cushion (because I still can't stretch out flat comfortably. But I did once wake up a bit sore to find that my right hand was resting on the wound. But I slept well considering.
And no, I'm no longer wearing the airline stockings. I hope that's OK.
