It's not just that, it's that if the text is, well, text, then it not only improves accessibility it also, to my fundamentally flawed sense of aesthetics, looks better.

Something like this? It looks best on goo, of course. I've ditched the star field. Unless you have a big star field these things look weird and the rules don't allow for a big star field. The alternative is to have a much smaller planet in a square box universe.
