Well, I noticed you posting at the Univ. of Mice, and I hadn't seen you before... But the Ministry of Magecraft seemed interesting, so I popped over here to see what you were all about. Keen beans. You seem interesting and all that good stuff.... And you are a Linux-happy individual, I see. That is good. smiley - smiley

Anyway, just dropping a note.. Be free to stop by my space, if you wish. Not too much terribly intriguing there, but it may be of interest to some.

Hello!!!

Nice to meet a person I've not met before. Somehow I always end up interacting with more or less the same people, don't you find? And although they're all fantastic, it's nice to meet other people too.

Would you like some smiley - tea?

Why yes, thank you very much. I'll take some green with bergamot smiley - tea, if you have any.

I seem to find a variety of people... Perhaps I am too chameleon-like; when I am around someone or when I find someone, the part of me that is most like them will come through more than the others. Rather odd at times. Though it can be fun to chameleate. smiley - smiley

I am still a fledgeling with interacting; I've been reaching out, but in the meantime I've found only a handful of people with whom I correspond. But they are all wonderfully interesting. I keep having to add links to my page to keep track of them all. smiley - biggrin In fact, I have so many conversations going on right now, it makes my head spin! smiley - cdouble

Oh yes, I know that feeling! Especially on a Wibble morning like this one, when I'm clock watching in order not to be late for my first lecture.

And it gets even worse when you start adding meetups, writing for the Post and being a Guru to the mix. Done any of those?

Nope... Not a one. Not that I wouldn't like to, someday, but I'm doing this in sall steps...

How demanding is it to be a Guru? And what qualifications are there? I'm trying to find out more about ACEs, Gurus, Field Researchers, and the like.... All wonderful volunteers I would like to be a part of. Not that I think I could handle all five, mind you...

How are meet-ups arranged?

Being a Guru is basically being around to answer questions that either nobody else has answered yet, nobody else has answered completely or that only you know how to answer. It's a pretty good thing to do actually, because helping people is a fantastic thing. You don't need to really have done anything to be a Guru, although it does help to answer questions and things to show that you can!

Meetups get organised as and when, although official meetups generally are more noticeable and organised longer in advance (the next one's in January in London and the link's on my Space). Plus, they tend to be bigger too, although they're no good if you can't get to London.

Well, theoretically I could, but I fear for my academic career above all if I were to travel to London at the beginning of Spring semester...

Yes, I would like to be a Guru. I would also like to be an ACE; I seem to randomly greet people anyway... But I also know that there is a certain request of time, I think, or is it just subjects? Of things that you would cover as an ACE or Guru.... So I'm trying to make usre I can keep everything in the air at once as it is, seeing as how I have a couple entries to maintain now, and I am a Muse....

But I think I will be able to handle it all; I just want to make sure I'm able to keep up with real life on top of the Guide... (Can you see whence my priorities lie?)

There are no time commitments - the Towers are far too nice to demand that you spend a certain amount of time online or anything like that. Being a Guru is fairly free-rein, although if you never do any Guru-like stuff then obviously it's not a good idea to stay a Guru...

So how knowledgeable is it good to be for Guruship?

I have a tiny, slithery grasp on GuideML, but I may be too green yet to know enough to be a Guru.. Though it seems I could be an ACE - I keep looking at Who's Online and I have a tendency to visit the spaces of newcomers, just to check them out and perhaps greet them. And from what I hear, I'm halfway to an ACE already for that... Don't want to overestimate myself, though...
