Its called The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy. it's beautifully illustrated and the short stories are really strange, what you'd expect from tim burton.
The film's a re-interpretation, ie, nothing like the first movie. no statue of liberty, no 'goddam them, goddamm them all to hell' no mark whalberg in a loin-cloth its supposed to be a different planet, something i had to remind myself throughout the film. it could have been visually exciting, only i didn't find it like that.
the book came out first - no statue of liberty there either. that was written for the film. in his introduction to the new reprint, brian aldiss thinks that's a much better ending, i'd have to agree with him.
i think i know too much about this!

Didn't know that the book came first or that it was written by Aldiss. I've been reading the Heliconia Trilogy of his (must start that last book) interesting ideas in that. Should read more of his stuff as it seems well though out.
Nothing wrong with knowing lots about things, you can never know too much

sorry eijit alert. 'pota' was written by Pierre Boulle. Brian Aldiss wrote the introduction to the new re-print, sorry my fault. like the advert points out - 7% of communication is verbal....

Still sounds like an interesting read. Might have to start looking for it when I go book browsing (second hand stalls and shops mainly).

its good, i don't really like sci-fi (is that blasphemous here i do hope so) but i enjoyed it. full of big ideas, but see the burton film first, you'll enjoy the film more.
i'm reading fight club just now.... not bad. i thought it was going to be full of men, whinging about how lifes hard when you're a white male in today's society, but its not too bad.

Did you see the film of Fight Club. I thought it looked interesting but then didn't go and see it.
Perhaps I should get out more

Fight club's great. i'd definately get a friend to get it out on video. brilliant ending, makes you want to watch it again and again... or is that the scantily clad brad pitt?

don't get me started on the pathetic 3 day's i've taken off since i got here in march, don't get me started about the 6 weeks the academics take off during the summer .... believe me its not worth the hassle!
i have a very active fantasty life (i'm not sure whether i should be proud of that or not ....) but then girls like nothing better than sitting around discussing 'who they'd do'

When I got in the morning the brown smelly stuff had hit the large rotating object

Nothing to do with me the this one. The connection to our big machine went down. I'm just trying to put things back together again.
No the fantasy person is more a cross between Maralyn Monroe, Sophie Dahl and Elle Mcphereson.
Just reminded me, I need to remember to drop of my repeat prescription request in the next day or so.

It was good to see the people again, even if there was aa bit of a rush for the last tube home!
Watching one of the guys leaping around when englad scored was entertaining.
I hope Scotland do Ok and get through.

OH WHY DO THE GODS HATE ME ?
you wait ages for a couple of potentially great gigs to come along, then 2 come along on the same day!!!! just found out that the Eels are playing glasgow at the same time as groove armada ... bu**er
there was a lot of jumping about to be done in england... not so much in scotland. we've got a mathematical chance of qualifying, we love doing this to ourselves; waiting to see if little san marino can beat the might brazil (i think its croatia) by a tonne of goals then we get in. its more exciting this way!

Eels were great when I saw them - all sit down though (strange). Wonder what their new stuff sounds like.
If England had lost or drawn then they'd be in the position Scotland are in. Still possible if we lose to Albania on wednesday.

no you shouldn't tell me how wonderful the are, i wanted you to say they were pants, so i wouldn't feel bad for missing them ...oh pants... i really, really, really want to see them, but then i really, really, really want to see groove aramada plus i've already bought the tickets .... pants life is sooooo unfair sometimes
i've heard their new single 'soul searcher' (i think? not bad... not too sure about mr e's full grizzly adams beard though. can't wait for the new album!
i was reading and laffing my way through the thread about why the celts of britain support germany against england .... cos even after 35 years, the english media are still going on about it!!!!! (we've all love to hate someone/something!)
Key: Complain about this post
