As a slight aside, don't you just *love* predictive text? VV sent one yesterday evening before our phone call, which said "She should be back on a normal yard tomorrow"

oh dear. from what i know there are not only a lot of buttons in modern hospitals, but also levers to push and strings to pull and what have you 
i went to the hospital with a friend to see a mutual friend who wasn't feeling too well. nevertheless the guy i was with rambled on for hours (or so it seemed) until our sick friend interrupted him, leaned forward and stared long and hard on the monitor to which he was attached by several chords
then turning back to us he said 'sorry, i was just checking if i am still alive'
