I'm one of the Assistant Community Editors here, I believe the only Canadian one (or at least that I'm aware of - wow, I knew I was unique, but gee... ). Anyway, to get the geographical details out of the way, I'm out west in Edmonton...always good to meet another Canuck here! Keep in mind there is a Canadian Researchers Club@ A1037323 .
A prominent feature of h2g2 or hootoo as we also refer to it, are the smileys (like that or; , , , , , , etc), you'll find a list of them, divided into categories@ A155909 . It gives simple instructions for using each one & if you need to refer back to it anytime just type smileys into the search window.
Being quite new, you should check the 'I am new, what do I do now?' page@ A868098 , or for a welcome other than just mine - although it lacks the personal warmth , check the 'Welcome page'@ A53146 . Of course another option is taking the <./>dontpanictour</.> .
Something you should look at, is 'spicing up your page'@ A690518 , as well as the 'picture gallery'@ A692741 ...or 'the GuideML clinic'@ A187229 .
Now you might be interested to know that like most sizeable communities h2g2 has it's own newspaper <./>thepost</.> which comes out every Thursday. And like most large communities it also has a number of clubs & societies, you'll find a complete listing of those listed@ A660340 .
A few of my esteemed ACE colleagues have compiled comprehensive lists of links designed to help new researchers. St. Seraphina's List is @ A1919937 , while Shea's List is@ A534953 , & Feisor's List of Links is@ A719840 .
I believe one of Feisor's suggestions is getting out & meeting people...so with that in mind I'm extending an invitation to pop by my space/page at some point, just click on my underlined nickname at the top of this message. Or I guess, just click on the 'Reply' button to leave me a message & I'll try to get back to you asap, ok. Good to have another Canadian onboard, so to speak, hope you develop half the fondness I have for this place. Be seein' you around...bye for now *waves*

YAY!!!
Great links jazzedupcurry!
Yes, please meander around the site and look into all of the nooks and crannies. You'll find the site is made up of a wide variety of people, all of whom I've found to be very friendly so far!
I myself am from the USA. Kansas City to be more precise (middle of the country). Please feel free to check out my page also (click on my highlighted name w/all the titles following it). Feel free to click on any conversation you see on my page. This is a public forum, so keep in mind that anyone can view your conversations at any time (including children). We try to keep the swearing to a minimum, and if you'll check the h2g2 rules, there's to be no "spitting" at any time!
Welcome again and I look forward to seeing you around!
