That sounds like fun, especially if you don't have a cold.
I'm not sure what was wrong with me today. I'll just say it was horrible, and leave it at that.

And what's wrong with my post above is that it was a response to post 79, not post 80, and I didn't notice at the time as I had to leave the room rather suddenly. Oh dear.
Anyway. I hope things go well...

Back on the track - oh well, art.
I was wondering about all the dots in aboriginal art.
When I watched the the Australian landscape flying back, you can see multiple dots and line of rivers and riverbeds like in some of the landscapes of the artists.
And I wondered if a perception of landscape could be: - wandering through a landscape and maybe 'mapping' it from above in the mind's eye - like a geographical map. ????

.. lots of dots in the maps I know of .. "you are here", "my dog was here", "my mother-in-law lives here"...

Ah yes - the dots. I don't pretend to understand the full details, but I was once told that the dots and lines represent the land, not as it is in the physical, everyday world but as it *is* in a deeper sense. Past and present merge, myth and reality merge... It's the truth of the land that's shown, not just the surface.
Of course, all of that might be wrong. It's only what I was told once.

some of my maps have writings like "here be dragons" on them
i guess seen for a distance even big dragons will only appear as dots
but then what would i know about it

seriously though, that theory you mention sounds perfectly logical to me, ivan

If I was not so keen on keeping my integrity I'd put "Here be Dragons" where I live on Google Earth.

actually there's an idea
ivan, have you tried to connect the dots in one of the paintings?
you could be on the verge to a great discovery in art history

No thanks... I have astigmatism, so I'll never be able to do that, and I'll get a headache too.

However, the concept is challenging - especially if you use fluorescent dye to connect the dots. should create a whole new dimension of art.
Or at least give the possibility to some word wrangling art critics to dribble long essays which eventually will lead others to write unreadable thesises (pl?) and gain fame within a narrow sself indulgent community.

The art critics don't need my assistance to write unintelligible essays. They're good at it already.

I took some evening classes in Art history some years ago. It was fascinating to listen to some of the other students and teachers who indulged in odd words and expressions to describe the "soul of the art" .
Almost as fun as listen to these wine drinking pros/wannabe pros describing taste and smell of the fermented grape juice they're about to imbibe.
