I'm inclined to think that manure might be better for the garden.
Oh dear, have I dragged the thread as low as it will go?

Changing the subject back... It's Day 2 of Month 2!
To celebrate, I'm going to the House of Teeth this afternoon. Never mind, it'll be quick and painless this time.

Websailor Posted Dec 6, 2004
Ivan,
Everyone seems to be going for MOT stuff - teeth, eyes and blood pressure in my case. You may find you won't need to visit the House of Teeth so often. Nicotine and all the other chemicals play havoc with gnashers. Hope your trip is painless. Glad to know you have started your second month well. Maybe six if you finish another month. That will include Christmas - will that make it difficult? Anyway for good measure.
Terri,
I was about to say *in my day* or *in my youth* too, till I saw your post delivered our milk and coal, and we had an ironmongers cart and knife sharpener too. First out with the shovel and bucket got the ing spoils!!
I have been contemplating contacting my local zoo for some lion dung to keep the neighbours out of my garden, as I understand it works very well. We have about seven different visitors, one of which is more like a leopard or a cheetah than a domestic cat, and launches itself out of trees at high speed. I worry for my birds. Mind, I think the Sparrowhawk is more of a threat.
a final to anyone who smokes Ivan is such a good example, and will be able to buy lovely Xmas with all the extra money
TTFN,

The teeth are now fully fixed. No more fillings! They could do with a polish I think, but that's neither here nor there. The fact is, there's an appalling expense finalised. Sooner or later I'll notice the financial difference, I guess.
That's assuming I don't start a business on the side...

Another day (almost) over! I will be out this evening, but there's no risk of smoking as I'll be in a smoke-free organic vegetarian restaurant.

'Skoe' sounds good though - very appropriate for this sort of tarry-smokey-gunky-stuff, don't ya think?

Oh yes - I'm glad that I'm no longer accumulating skoe.
The food last nighgt was interesting - a filo pastry thing crammed with eggplant and spinach and things - quite pleasant, but I'm not sure what possessed them to garnish it with cranberries. That bit I don't recommend.

Hi, Ivan,
Glad you are still "skoe" free! Your organic meal sounded rather tasty. The cranberries wouldn't have bothered me, though I found out the other day that persons on Warfarin should stay well clear of Cranberry juice. I'm not on the rat stuff I hasten to add that was the nearest smiley I could get!
I think it is about time doctors were trained in nutrition and alternative medicine as well. There is so much to be learnt, that could do away with a lot of the drugs they seem intent in getting us hooked on.
Ivan, Keep up the good work
Anyone got a remedy for sore throats? - I am growling at everyone at the moment and it feels like I'm swallowing gravel.

Warm milk with honey might help.
I know some people add an egg into it too but that sounds pretty to me.

Whisky, Websailor.
Malt whisky A large dram. Followed by a glass of hot water. Then bed and a good night's sleep.
Trust me. I'm a 's daughter and he taught me everything I know about malt whisky and its medicinal properties

Whisky. I'm not keen on whisky. Brandy, on the other hand... Does brandy have any of the same medicinal qualities - or is it the essence of peat bogs that holds the healing powers?

Do they still use peat in making whisky?
My guess is the medicinal value is in the antiseptic qualities of alcohol on the throat (best to drink it straight then ).
It's also pain relieving. And I think it is a peripheral vasodilator so it helps the body with a fever.
In the past alcohol was often made with herbs that had medicinal properties which may account in part for some alcohol's reputation as being medicinal.
Honey is a good throat soother, specially if you have raw honey because it is anti-bacterial. Lemon is antiseptic too (hot lemon and honey )
Some sore throats need demulcents to sooth them, others need antiseptics. Sage gargle is another good antiseptic. I'm trying to think of a common demulcent that you'd find it the kitchen or garden....oatmeal woud be good (especially with honey).

Gargling with hot salt water (just as hot as you can stand) often works very well for sore throats. There is also an amazing throat spray called Anginovag here (I think it's called something similar in other countries) that tastes horrible, burns a bit when you use it, but works a treat. The pain disappears almost immediately.

Just for the record, I'm still free of the dreaded tobacco.
However, tomorrow I will be having a day of leisure and luxury that may or may not involve - for the first time in weeks. I'm rather worried that I might lapse, while under the influence . Please a bit, over the next 16 hours or so...
(Incidentally, in 5 hours and 33 minutes' time, I will be 34. Hence the probability of and a established fact of a day off w*rk .)

I would indeed regret it... That's why I need extra now, to remind me that I'd be miserable if I gave in to temptation. I really can't face the thought of failing, but does things to the mind.
Besides, I want to be Six Ivan.
