I think the anaesthetic-in-a-glass had done its job. I'll be offline in a few minutes... See you all tomorrow, when I intend to get a grip on things.

This is in case you wake up and can't sleep, Ivan.
Don't worry about getting a grip... just take your time and do what feels right for you. And don't go to work, will you? You'll still be in shock and you need to be able to react in a safe environment - ie at home.
I find a banana and a cup of water help get over anaesthetic booze the next morning btw

6:05am. I'm wide awake and ready to go to the office. The thought of staying home did cross my mind, but on balance - at the office I have RL company, and it's closer to the hospital and other likely places, should D ask me to appear.
I slept fitfully, but there was only one brief patch of distubing imagery. It wasn't as bad as it could have been.
Neither the answering machine nor the mobile shows any evidence of a missed call overnight. That's good in most regards.
If I don't hear from D by lunchtime, I'll track him down and find out how he is. Moira has a whole staff fluttering about her, and Vinnie is beyond anyone's help now, so the best I can do is be there for D if he wants me to be there. He will, sooner or later.
I don't have a hangover. Goodness how lucky.

8:11am. Here I am, feeling rather ill, but at least there's RL people around. No news on either the patient or the ex as yet.

Sometimes familiar routine and faces can be of comfort for a while.
Waiting for news can be tense making...
Sending soothing and comforting thoughts to you over the ether

9:37am. The walk didn't achieve much. I couldn't bring myself to get any food either. The nausea is still with me - which is of course why I should eat something, but it's also why I can't.
The anger is building. I don't know what to do with it all. Another walk might be indicated.

Can you call the hospital and find out how Moira is?
Sounds like you need to do something positive if you can, rather than going round in circles.

I've got a meeting to be at in 12 minutes' time. I'm leaving my phone on; any phone call will be more important than anything in the meeting. If I've not heard anything by after the meeting, I'll start making phone calls.

Perhaps if you're able to concentrate on the meeting, it'll relieve some of the tension? Or is it one of those meetings that is torpid and turgid?

Waiting is the worst of all. The only thing you can do is hope to distract yourself for a few minutes; mindless but intricate stuff works best for me, silly crossword puzzles (NOT difficult ones) going on daft threads on hootoo, staring at anything with writing on & making anagrams, counting triangles, probably that sudoku thing, dunno,I suppose if the worst comes to the worst you could do some boring w**k stuff.
