It's probably fortunate that it sounds as though Websailor's new neighbours are wildlife-friendly then

Hmm, I arrive early and everyone disappears Yes, Frenchbean I *think* they r wildlife friendly, but we shall have to wait and see. It takes a while to weigh up new neighbours.
Hi, Ivan, nice to see you. Honestly I didn't expect to find you behind the with this load of (old) reprobates ..... ......
Hi, Prof . Wot, no Nigel Maybe he's gone to his plot this morning, no, not the one you've lost Ivan, his allotment It's a nice morning so far, a trifle cold, but the forecast for this afternoon is
I am not supposed to be here, I'm playing truant so I had better See you all later after I have cleaned up the mess the birds, squirrels, badgers and weather have made.
Frenchbean, be careful with that trowel and bricks. I hope you are wearing trousers and shoes because the other option will send the temperature soaring

STRANGELY STRANGE ( A brain on a spring ) Posted Mar 29, 2008
A Heron just flew very low and slow over my flats. They aren't that rare, I saw one yesterday over my garden, bizzarly flying amoungst a flock of Green Parakeets, but they do have a touch of prehistoric about them with their long wings and legs trailing behind them, their slow speed adds to it too.
.
I was thinking of going birdwatching this morning but my flat needed a good clean so did that instead, however since I am using the last of my time off from last year next week I will have plenty of time. I am thinking of going to Bracknell Forest again, despite the time it takes to get there, as will be a trip out.

I hope the weather holds out for you SS. It is lovely here this morning, but the forecast says it won't last. I haven't seen a long range forecast but the weather is all over the place so I am not sure it would be much use.

The British Library British Bird Sounds double CD I ordered just arrived. There is a big differance between my DVDs and this new CD in that the DVDs are great for visual learning about birds but that gets in the way of the bird sounds a little as looking at pictures. The CD is great in that when listening to it is sounds like when the real bird sounds come into my room from outside. when listening to it I realised that quite a harsh alarm call I have heard before is actually the generally gentler Blue Tit.

I'm Here to keep you all in order behind that wall .
I was at the plot this morning, a few showers but nothing too bad .
This afternoon I have been busy extending this wall and putting a roof on. It looks like a large bus shelter now .
Nigel .
P.S. Frenchbean I didn't know you wear thongs .

Weather: Wet and windy with sunny spells
There was no sign of life during last night but in spite of several checks we missed our visitor who had cleared the dish by 11.40pm It is so frustrating.
EARTH DAY
This morning dawned sunny with a cold breeze but everywhere was soaking wet. I put fresh food out and the birds were down in a trice. Two blue s were having a serious fight over ‘ownership’ of the patio table and the starlings came early and were scrapping over the much diminished peanut cake, leaving a trail of fatty scraps for the robin and blackbirds
At 9.30am and 12.45pm the female woodpecker was also attacking the peanut cake. Another one will have to go out in the next day or so Blue, great and long tailed s joined bullfinches and a nuthatch on the tables and feeders and the chaffinches and dunnocks tucked in to nyjer seed on the lawn. The remaining wet food that I distributed all over the lawn was cleared in a very short time by blackbirds, wood pigeons, squirrels and magpies. One magpie almost came to grief when a grey/black tabby pounced on him from behind the BBQ but he survived with just a few ruffled feathers.
>biro> The day has just got wetter and windier and I had to make a mad dash to put the badger food out this evening. No sign of any brocks as I write, but PHM is keeping watch now we have done our stint for Earth Day
I do hope tomorrow is better, it is so miserable . Each time we get a glimmer of Spring it disappears again. I think having an early Easter is making us think Spring should be here already.
I am going to try and get an early night as I really resent losing an hour’s tonight.

Ah, it is possible that there is a misunderstand of the meaning of "thong" in this context as I understand the wearing of shorts was mentioned too. In some parts of the world Flip Flops are called thongs! Flip Flops being open shoes worn is summer usually with shorts.

SS,
Knowing Frenchbean, who likes 'bits of string' we might be right, but then so might you. I am sure she will enlighten us.
Frenchbean, please educate us - which kind of 'thong' did you mean. You know darn well what this lot would think, Strangely Strangely excepted of course

SS: blue tits, like robins, have their harsher side - especially at this time of year, when there's competition for mates, nest-sites, food and guarding eggs.
The other birds that always surprises me with an unexpected call are raptors. Enormous, fierce-beaked beasts, which sound like a wounded kitten It makes me grin every time I hear one.
Thongs? Websailor is quite right to assume I wear both kinds The ones to which I was referring yesterday were the foot variety, although the ... bottom variety were also being worn I think that's probably enough information for you all (especially Nigel and Prof ) and should help you stay warm tonight
