You are right there Fb, and Op. Mig. are doing their best I think. Unfortunately there will always be people who ignore advice and information, and the birds are in such out of the way, and often unexpected places it is not possible to monitor every stop. The Whooping cranes don't return as a flock either, but in ones, twos and threes which makes monitoring even more complex.
On the flight down everything is done to prevent unauthorised sightseers but the birds are free to stopover anywhere on the way back.
*******
Smurfles it is too cold for me too, though it looks nice outside. The forecast is not so good though.

You're right about people ignoring advice, but if it's put in the right way, you can reduce the number of people who don't understand it - and therefore ignore it - considerably.
I worked on that kind of thing in Scotland and it was soooo hard to find the right language and the right medium to get the 'right' message out to as many people as possible. (Think about the hedgehog fiasco on Benbecula and the Uists and you'll know what I'm talking about )

Weather: Sunny all day
Last night the badger crept in between 11.30pm and 1.55am when I was There was no sign of activity during the evening. I really wish I knew what governed his ETA. Perhaps it is down to the ground conditions, and whether it is good for catching worms
I think I spied a furry thing on the stone table at 1.55 am but I can’t be sure.
It has been a glorious day and the birds have been popping in and out all day, but not in their usual numbers. As the days get longer they spread out and unless I can watch all day (which is rare) I miss some.
Today there were blue tits, robin, nuthatch, blackbirds, starlings, dunnocks, great tits, bullfinches, magpies, wood pigeons, one squirrel and Ginger the

Weather: Rain all morning. Sunny afternoon. Rain evening
Sometime last night between 10.10 and 10.40pm the dish was opened and the food eaten but we saw nothing. I shall be so glad when I an have a window open and hear him come
This morning everywhere was floating in water but I put food out and the birds didn’t seem to might it being a bit soggy. When I came to put the badger food out this evening al the food had gone except for some floating in water on the stone table. I left that - if the badger comes sniffing around it he will get a bit of a soaking but he is quite clever at dodging the deluge
The blackbirds, robins, bullfinches, starlings, dunnocks and chaffinches were first down. The female woodpecker came twice at 9.05am and 12.25pm and the bullfinches, blue and great tits were flitting in and out in quite large numbers.
They move so quickly it is difficult to count, but there seem to be double the usual numbers. Several wood pigeons landed on tables and feeders sending water and seed flying in all directions, and the magpies came for a drink.
Four squirrels were charging up and down trees and along fences, jumping on tables and swinging on feeders, more like monkeys than squirrels. I hope the rain stops tomorrow as there will be a fair bit of mess to clean up.
for now. Have a nice weekend if you can.

*Arrives carrying a few hods of bricks (25 in each
)... now, where's that trowel?*
It's been pouring here too, Websailor. I went to the local Markets first thing and paddled around the grass-cum-mud, getting liberally splattered in the process. I had to towel down my legs when I got home I probably should have worn long trousers and shoes, rather than shorts and thongs
Anyway, the rain has resulted in sad bedraggled apologies of DLs This gives me the perfect excuse to feed them again
So I've smeared honey onto slices of melon and they are tucking in with little twirts of delight
cold here btw... 20C and not rising

Fb, what are you doing with Canberra's weather?
My Heart is still Thumping!!!
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Mar 29, 2008
I lost it ages ago. But the weather, that's a different matter. Canberra and any part of Queensland aren't supposed to have the same weather; that only happens in a world gone mad.
Oh. It has, hasn't it?
