The ZZ9PluralZAlpha SETI group
WelcomeThe SETI@home project.
This uses a program which either runs as a screensaver or in the background, which analyses data collected from the Arecibo Radio Observatory.
The project will run for two years and scan aproximatly one third of the sky.
The purpose of the project is to try and find any intelligent signals that may have been sent out by an alien civilisation.
As yet none have been found.
Check out the seti@home site for the software, more info and the latest news and stats on the program.
Once you get it up and running why not join my group ZZ9PluralZAlpha

There are various ways of speeding up the processing of each work unit. These are the ones that I find have worked.
1: Set the program to run all the time in the background. If your processor is 300 or faster this is definatley a good idea.
2: Don't have the screensaver or the data screen up. Keep it minimised in the system tray. By turning off the screensaver I more than halved the processing time for each unit. Or if you need a scrensaver, change the settings for the screensaver in the display panel. Check the box goto blank screen, and set the time until blank to 0 mins.
3: Before starting the program for the first time do a reinstall from scratch of your operating system. This gets rid of unnessecery files and applets left over from old programs which can eat up you resources. - Only do this if you know what your doing and make a backup of all your important files first.
4: Before starting the program run scandisk and defrag the drive to which you will install the program and whichever drive is used by windows for virtual memory (normally C:) this can help to speed up the processing particuarly if your drive is heavily fragmented.
