I am aware that this is a very dead conversation. And it should probably stay that way.
This is just a very quick response to something said by Researcher 524695 (Member):
"I'd be stunned if any of them replied 'Oh no, I'd much rather be blind/deaf/crippled'."
Many Deaf people (note the initial capital) regard themselves as part of a minority group with very strong in-group loyalities. The Deaf, unlike the blind or the wheelchair-bound, have their own languages, their own humours, their own communities and social clubs. Many have a very strong Deaf identity, and have no desire to hear.
