New Office

Have moved into my new office at work. It's a smart little two-seater with decent PCs and printer, loads of space for putting up Dilbert cartoons and open-source jokes. Me & Steve will be using this as our Bristol base over the coming year, though we may be spending more time on the road from August.
ANyway, it's a nice little joint (especially as S is away today) and I'm feeling pretty fluffy about the new job, impending house purchase, sunny weather and life in general.

Jinxed

Shouldn't have written about my hopes for my articles...
Autumn got rejected because it was too short (a fair point) and Pub Quiz Tactics has now disappeared into the h2g2 ether. Most odd.
Looking good for moving into the new house late July/early August. Had to pay a ridiculous amount of money to the solicitors on Friday, but I've reached that fun part where you go shopping for furniture etc.

Guide Entries

Funny old game, isn't it? I have submitted two entries recently - "pub quiz tactics" which isn't up to much, frankly, and "autumn" which is pithy but, I feel, reasonably good. The sub-ed has noted that the former might be included in the article "pub quizzes", which is a fair comment and I should have checked that article out before submitting it. "Autumn" has been left pretty much in tact, as far as I can tell, bar the link to a related article (which, again, I should have checked). Fingers crossed, I might get another full entry. That *would* be nice.
On another note about h2g2, I started writing an article on things that happen to you whilst you're on a bus, but I ran a few searches and someone's already submitted a very similar article. I thought about finishing it and asking for a joint submission, but figured that I wouldn't like to have my billing shared, so nor would the other researcher. Rightly or wrongly, I have given up the piece. I'm now looking round for something else to spout off about...

Current Activity

Things have been so hectic lately that I've hardly had time to think, let alone add h2g2 entries.
My new job kicked in around the end of the first week in June, so I've been racing round the UK to meet people, get information, attend seminars and generally get to grips with what I'm meant to be doing. It seems it's my job (along with others) to document the current working practises in the corporation, then work out how to scrap them all and get SAP to work. A long, long job. Estimates for job finish vary between June and December 2001. Eeek!
Whilst all this has been happening, I found a house I wanted to buy. It's in Bristlington - a pleasant 3 bed end-of-terrace place. Things have gone suspiciously smoothly with the house and it looks like I might be able to move in there early in August. Still, something's got to go right for a change, I suppose.
Not had much chance to see many people of late, so I've got lots of making up and catching up to do with various folk.
Otherwise, life is pretty normal. I'm happier to be doing my new job than my old one, which is a good sign and, hopefully, now that I'm not writing webpages all day, I'll be able to get on with the stuff I planned to do for myself at home.

Eyestorm banner

Now, bless those lovely people at Eyestorm for giving h2g2 a banner and therefore much needed revenue, but I have a problem with it.
I've had a quick look at the Eyestorm site and it's a good resource for those that need that kind of thing - I have absolutely no problems with the company. However, the banner is terrible. 8 pictures that nobody in their right mind would want anyway, plus they have been reduced by someone who has very little concept of how to present small images on the web. I can hardly see what half of them are, and the rest look like very badly framed/focussed pictures.
I don't know who makes the banners (the company or h2g2) but someone needs to pull their finger out.
Rant over.
