Help me clear up some confusion
Researcher 178815 Started conversation Nov 8, 2003
Occasionally after leaving a Thread which seemed to be hostile and has now apparently calmed down, I'll lurk there to see how the conversation is going on, to jump in if the situation becomes hostile again, or whatnot.
Would you mind filling me in on what you meant by this? F1600773?thread=336722&skip=60&show=20
"What an EFFING arrogant tosser.
Live and learn Baboon...Jesus Christ...this guy needs help!"
You seem to be agreeing with 'Baboon' so I can only assume you were addressing either me or jwf who were in that conversation trying to help you out around h2g2 and with how things work here.
By 'unsubscribing' on h2g2, it means to remove any update notifications from that thread, and thus leave the conversation and allow for those interested in the subject of the Thread to continue posting - you might do this when helping someone out who's now happy with your help. If that's got anything to do with being an 'arrogant tosser' to you, I suggest you take a while to browse h2g2 and get a picture of how things happen here.
If you of course want any help with understanding h2g2, you can visit any of the other </.>Aces</.> and ask for help. I would like to know where you think you detected any arrogance, though.

Your comment about the conversation becoming "private" was offensive.
The protocol,I accept, may be established but your arrogance inflamed Baboon with the evident reply.
Baboon is a new reasearcher on a digibox, I am a relatively new researcher on a laptop, you are an established Ace. What I expect from you is the nouse to assess a situation and react appropriately.
Thank you for asking. I hope the situation has been resolved, if not then please return.

As I understood it, the situation had become, as I had said, 'a cosy chat area', which is good for h2g2, so I left you two to carry on in a conversation I was not personally connected to. I did assess the situation as such and act appropriately as such. So what you expected has been fulfilled. Please go into specifics if you were expecting my reaction to be different.
"Your comment about the conversation becoming "private" was offensive."
On h2g2, no conversation is truly private, but as the two of you seemed to be chatting in a friendly manner, I felt there were places I could be put to better use - on a new Researcher's user space, for example. I'm sorry you think that disappearing from the conversation like that is arrogant, but that was not the intent. You'll find a lot of Aces -- and futhermore, a lot of h2g2 regulars doing exactly the same thing - Allowing the conversation to continue without them.
If an Ace never unsubscribed from all the 'Welcome to h2g2...' threads they'd started, their 'My Most Recent Conversations' list would be huge - and the same for some Gurus who use the same practise when a problem has been solved that they've helped find the solution to.
I have to repeat, the arrogance was only ever detected - never expressed.

I don't differentiate between corespondents as to their status. That's on the planet, never mind on this site.
The fact that is an open communication channel is integral to my presence. This isn't a secret society. Not keen on those.
Again your approach seems distant. Detected certainly as arrogance.
May I suggest adopting the attitude of AKA researcher without the h2g2 ranking titles?

I'll gladly talk in one of your Threads if the subject matter interests me - whether it's a debate or just a friendly chat - but the one between you and Baboon, frankly didn't seem like one I should get involved in. Are you an anarchist by any chance? You seem to be of the opinion that nobody should have any authority - or at least any title. Do you think the same of the h2g2 Italics? Should they have their bold-italic formatting removed from their names and spend more of their time chatting at <./>MiscChat</.> etc?
The fact is - I was only there as an Ace, not a friend - think of my opting out of the conversation as the same as the Italics' in many help threads. When the problem is solved, like I've said before, there's no need to stay notified on the topic anymore, and they have more help threads to be in, and really important work to do to help keep the site running. Think of it like that. I'm not an h2g2 official, but I volunteer to help people around the site, and at that have little time for h2g2 at all and my time would be put to better use around the site helping other people, or talking in Threads which interest me, or reading new Entries, etc - This may come across as arrogant, but theThread I unsubscribed from does not interest me, and I'd rather be somewhere else. On the 'guy who thinks he's Caeser' note, you seem to think that your Threads are central and important to the World. They're not.
So what do you care if a h2g2 Volunteer doesn't want to read your chit-chat? I mean, seriously. Tell me how it affects you personally.

Because aka mentioned me by name in the first posting here, and as it is true that I was witness to the 'snivelling little moron' conversation, http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F1600773?thread=336722&skip=60&show=20, I feel compelled now to wonder out loud what sort of self destructive behaviour has been induced in O.O. by the almost predictable 'swarming' of researchers presently occurring. It did indeed seem that the swelling had gone down and O.O. was beginning to grasp the h2g2 concept... but things have gone seriously off the rails in several threads. So, now I have to re-affirm my concern for him and point out to everyone that his ability to handle conformity should be considered a disability and treated as such. Conformist behaviour like 'swarming' is the unkindest thing that people can do to someone with his attitude. Chill.

Bloody hell... Drink hits you hard!
Well, at least I know what that clr 1 stuff was about! I was completely bamboozled!
Anyway, the whole thing here seems a little tense, so I think I'll hide away in my little hole for the rest of the night...
