Theory of Video games. I will keep looking but I am going to look at this site first.
I have to get a new 3D graphics card before I buy any really nice games. My card is new but apparently doesn't work for a lot of things. I am hoping that it is not something that is integrated so much into the computer that I can't get around it. I start working on this problem next week...I am going to have my boyfriend take apart the computer and look.
Someday I want to make a video game. I am working with a very small 3D program now...but I have have a little more than no knowledge of how to operate it. Such things will take time.

We are happy to announce that we've just finished developing on the first ever official campaign video game - the Dean for Iowa Game, commissioned by Dean for America.
Political videogaming has now reached official status. This is an important moment in the world of political games and game rhetoric, since never before has a candidate, let alone a US Presidential candidate, officially embraced games as a viable communication medium.
We'll look forward to telling you more about this soon, but for now, just play the game.

This is one of the main headlines on Ludolgy right now. Imagine...a political video game. I wonder what an Arnold political video game would look like.
Last night I saw a show on the Discovery channel about toys. Video games are used in the militiary's war games....very realistic...some of the same video games are offered to the public...they just speed things up so that they occur faster (the grenade smoke spreads in 2 seconds instead of 4 or 5 minutes). Even in video games our society wants things to happen instantly.

Are you also trying to learn how to create video games???

Well I guess Ludology.com is for ACADEMIC video games....I still find it interesting though.
I might download the political game...maybe.

"I" guess "Theory of Games" !== "Game Theory"?

That's what I was guessing. There is an actual theory called game theory that has nothing to do with video games, so I guess we just wait for an anwer.

Has anyone ever seen the video games created by the US army?
They're terrifying. Very realistic looking and of course, the US solider is always the hero. They used to (still?) let people download them for free. Pre-9/11 they were a very useful propoganda tool from what I understand.
Kind of sad and scary that by making killing and attacking fun, people would willingly join the army.

The theory of games is a mathematical field that attempts to understand choices based upon parameters of games. I am only familiar with it because of my connection with psychology.
The original game to be theorized about was called "prisoners dilema" where two hypotheical inmates of a prison wanted to escape. The question was would they rat out the other prisoner.
The four possible outcomes were
1)both escaped
2)both failed
3&4) one ratted out the other (for some reward) while the other one was caught.
The question was presented as would the rewards offered for ratting out the other inmate balance the possiblity of the ultimate reward escape? Also would the inmates be able to co-operate so that they could both to escape?
There is a rich literature on games theory. I cant pretend to tell you that I know even enough of it (very mathematical) but it gives one something to think about. There are applications of the simple games presented that are the basis in every type of game out there, even real life.
Good luck in your quest for more information.
