It was a purpose built gambling and entertainment complex way up on the Veldt and miles away from civilisation It was ok but a very plastic and artificial world.......you had to be very careful to keep a hold on reality sometimes!
I'll let you know as soon as I hear something

I have some friends that are dealers in the casino at Surfers Paradise and they say the same thing...must be the casino industry

Yes I think you're right! You work in an environment with no windows and no clocks and live in a world centred around entertainment and having a good time..........the real world isn't really allowed to encroach! You certainly have to make a conscious effort to stay in touch with whats going on in the world outside! We moved off the complex after a while and lived in a small village about 15km away

If I recall correctly you were a dealer yourself...definitely a people person, you keep picking those jobs

yes I was and it was good fun too most of the time Have always done people orientated jobs........trained as a nurse after I left school, then did office jobs for a couple of yrs before becoming a croupier! I'm a glutton for punishment

I must admit I loved being a computer tech for that reason...but the company wanted its techs to be less involved fixing the gear and more merely replacing it...boring...uni was fun with all the kids...but I sometimes wonder what I'm doing here...not a lot but sometimes

I must admit I prefer to be out and about and meeting people rather than being stuck in an office but, beggars can't be choosers I guess!
Am always on the lookout for other jobs with better pay but there's not much around for mature women these days I only have a degree in the university of life..........not proper uni degrees I'm afraid, altho I did have a good education even if I didn't appreciate it at the time

Annie is the same...should see her hackles rise when I mention the word professional (implies uni degree) Australia has an increased aged population and by and large employers that want "young and edgy" workers so I am getting a little nervous about job security too

It's the same here........so many young people are going to uni and coming out with degrees, albeit totally useless ones sometimes, that employers aren't interested in us older ones who could bring some wisdom, experience and stability to a job
Sends a big and

we have a skills shortage here too...not enough tradesmen or apprenticeships...it's like we are convincing each other that getting your hands dirty is low prestige
lovely!!

plumbers are like gold dust over here and trying to get one to come out and fix anything is a nightmare and usually ends up emptying the bank account But I agree with you, it seems like getting your hands dirty and doing a decent days work isn't pc anymore

I blame the media and especially the advertising industry, the stereotypes get worse as time goes on...they advertise to the professionals where the uncommited income is and the remainder of the population who aren't in that demographic learn to aspire to the lifestyle...sorry ranting...pet peeve...we complain about youth but subliminally educate by commercial TV
how's your night going
Naughty boys
tsarina Posted Apr 11, 2005
Very very slowly..........it's gone dead and altho it sounds like a good thing it really does make the night drag on and on I've taken about 3 calls in the last hour!
Don't worry about ranting..........it's one of my pet hates too.......if you do a good honest and down to earth job that involves getting your hands and clothes dirty, then you're considered to be a 2nd class citizen and even perhaps, a little sub-educated!!! Not every can or even wants ot be Einstein and someone has to do the dirty jobs don't they???

I have a friend who runs a dairy and she can't get someone to muck out the pens for love or money...well money anyway...it's not ttrue what they say about dairymaids
yeah we all seem to be after instant gratification and ignore the sense of achievement of any job well done

Weather is overcast with drizzle...the grass is green but it's not enough to start filling the rain-water tanks

All being well, the contracts should bge signed on the 27th of this month and then I'll move a couple of weeks after that hopefully.........if I've got somewhere to move to by then
You're making me work twice as much cos I'm on 2 threads now
Naughty boys
The Mayan Templar Posted May 9, 2005
No, my apologies I was referring to the banana discussion
so are you waiting for the contract to become unconditional?...for us that's when the land and encumbrance searches and the bank finance OK are sent
