It'd all be sort-out-able if I knew how much a weekly (or monthly) bus pass was... then I could do the math and find out what would be easier to do.

Went and did the math (correctly, I hope )... turns out it is cheaper to pay as I go. 1.4x4 times a week (assuming I have an extra trip randomly) x 4 weeks a month... equals... 22.4. A monthly ticket is 28.8. I don't think it'd be worth it.

you really should go out a bit. honestly...your ina foreign country...no ones expecting you to get bladdered, but it doesnt hurt to go out and sit in a pub wih some new faces...you mnight discover a taste for it
