I suppose one good thing about buying a bunch and then selling them on, is that you can charge a little extra for the authentic signature on the first page?

I had the honor last night of being the first person to review Endangered Creatures on the US amazon website last night. I gave it 5 stars and said:
"Actually contains semicolons."

It actually was edited - the first sign that showed it was better than 60% of kindle books within the first chapter.

Note to self: When setting up your layout document, do the pages as you would for the ePub version so you don't have to go back and redo it all to get the titles and bookmarks right later.

My copy arrived yesterday. It was finished in one stretch. Re-reading now, to catch up with any details I missed - so far, not many.
Loved it.

I enjoyed it. The story itself is the sort of thing I typically like - mythical creatures existing in a modern-day and/or urban environment. I don't want to accidentally give any spoilers, so I won't go on about it *too* much other than to say that I felt enough of a connection to some of the characters to want their story to continue. Subtle digs at things made me chuckle.
One thing I did notice, probably because it was self-published, is just how striking some regional differences can be in dialect, syntax, etc. While many of the books I've read by UK authors have retained a lot of idioms, UK spelling, etc, I'm sure that they undergo a second edit for the US audience and, as such, must have some differences of varying subtlety. Reading this book was more like having you yourself telling me the story you'd created, and that was kind of cool.
I eagerly await a follow-up. (After you finish rebuilding a certain web site, of course. Priorities! )

BTW... I D/Led the kindle version. It's first on my list of tsundoku to clear. (Gotta finish reading The Long War first.)

Bought the Kindle version, found the wireless connection at w*rk malfunctioning (nothing new there, happens every now and then), will try the local cafë (that offers a free and much faster wireless connection) this weekend. And they have good coffee too.
Key: Complain about this post
